I am planning to make this ride offshore on Monday, weather permitting, for the first time for me. It looks like from the charts you can get pretty darn close to shore (other than at Cape Canaveral). Is it best to still go out several miles? Any advice or any super secret methods would be appreciated.

Bill, don't have an answer to your question, but would love to hear a report once completed. I'll be making that same run in early June after the Okeechobee Waterway. Are you spending time in the Ponce Inlet area? We live north of there in Palm Coast. Maybe we can get together. Eric

You do have to stand well offshore at Canaveral, but don't necessarily have to go outside the easternmost shoals.

Bill you coming north for the summer?

It's a nice run; nothing technical. You need to know the status of the launch operations when north of Cocoa Beach (Cape Canaveral AFB and Kennedy Space Center). If launch is in process the area will be closed and not passable within a reasonable distance. Another thing there are shoals immediately north of the Cape Canaveral inlet so stay at least 1/2 mile off shore like Sea Gull alludes. Also there are yellow markers around the AFB also stay East of those. Follow the charts.

As an edit I'll clarify if one should wander into the restricted area during launch operations (launches occur about every three weeks) the wrath from the authorities will be quite severe. You are best served to contact the CG before going North of the Cape Canaveral inlet.

Monday was extremely windy. So we just ran up the Indian River with about a 25Mph tailwind the whole way.
