I have a brand new, never installed, still in the crate soundshield for most newer 5KW / 7.3 KW Kohler gensets (Part # GM10056 I think). It will reduce sound and vibration a tremendous amount, and is designed to provide easy access to all the maintenance items. Sea Ray wanted to charge $2K more for it. I bought it for an '04 320DA, but never got around to installing it once I decided to sell the boat. It should fit just about any 5 or 7.3KW gas Kohler genset (the 5 and 7.3 use the same kawasaki engine). I do not think it will fit the low-CO models as those use very hot exhaust systems to burn off the CO. But if you have a 300DA, 320DA, 340DA, 360DA it should work fine. We can check model numbers to confirm. Not sure if theres room in the 260DA/280DA but those also used the same gensets.

These go for $750-800 new. I got it from a kohler dealer.

Its sitting in my dealers shop (geriksen on the board here).

I'll sell for $450 + shipping, otherwise it goes on ebay! But I'd rather see a CSR member get it. Its a big box, but its still in the freight crate, so it'd be easy to transport via a trucking company. I will assist with finding freight if someone is interested. I can get a quote via FedEx Freight online I think.

Let me know if you're interested!

Bridog,

It should work fine with your genset. I don't have a quote, but I would expect it to be maybe 2-3 shop hours?

I was thinking of doing it myself, but I'm fairly mechanically inclined, and do have a great shop handy just in case. It does not look hard if you have decent access to the genset, but my 320DA was tight. Kohler has an installation guide online in PDF form. You have to disconnect all the plumbing and slide a new base underneath it, then all the sides and top go on and you hook up the plumbing and electricals via pass throughs.

Heres a copy of the install guide. The hard part is simply getting enough room next to the genset to be able to slide it over or lift it up a bit to get the base installed. In the 300 I think it was reasonably accessible, due to stern drives, right? My 320 w/vdrives was a lot tighter.

Other than being close to the batteries there looks to be plenty of room.... right? Unfortunately I'm not very mechanically inclined. Marine Max will do the install.

I think theres probably plenty of room for DIYer to install it in your 300DA. It would definitely quiet it down too, as it looks like the genset is right up against the mid-cabin bulkhead.

I would call MMax and see what their service dept would quote you to install. It should be doable in the water as the genset doesn't really need to be removed, just propped up a bit.

Thanks.

Oh well. I just received the news from MM. They said they spoke with SeaRay factory reps and a Kohler rep and said adding a sound shield to the 300DA was not possible due to room in the engine compartment??? Sorry Dave. I would have taken it. The price is right. Good luck with the sale. Brian

Brian,

Oh well. That seems a bit odd because the 300DA I looked at had a decent amount of room around the genset. But Sea Ray should know if anyone does.

The sound shield really doesn't make the genset much bigger, perhaps an inch or two in each direction. The dimensions are in the install PDF file above if anyone wants to double check.

Yes that's what I'm thinking as well. I asked the question on the 300DA thread but no one has responded yet whether or not they have ever installed one.
