Front Stateroom TV/Restoration Marine Project

Excellent idea and awsome job, Gary. You make the job a lot easier for falks with similar boats, at least ideawise. Soimetimes coming up with a good design takes way much longer than actually putting the pieces together.

How did you make the face frame?

Is it plywood with laminate? What kind of laminate/veneer?

The laminate is Nuvacor... I got it from Restoration Marine (one of the CSR sponsors)

I think I got the wrong color though which is the issue. The 2003 480DB has a darker cherry color... I need to blame someone else though... any volunteers? Maybe George Bush....

The face frame is just 1/2" sandy ply plywood... The original frame was 1/2" plywood with the outer plies being what looked like MDF... I didn't use that... would have had to special order it...

I don't know, the cherry doesn't seem to match. I think you need to redo it again.

I prefer this shade. I think Gary should redo all of the other cherry on the boat to match this one.

Seriously though, nice work Gary.

Yeah, you would not believe the markup on Nuvacor either. I inadvertently found out about that stuff calling around for different veneer/laminate options several months ago. The distributor was going to sell direct to me for my project, but once the distributor found out I wanted the material for a marine project, he told me he no longer could sell the material. He referred me to Restoration Marine. I made the connection to CSR once I heard the name. Apparently Restoration Marine's exclusivity is/was ending shortly or up for renewal (I'm unsure of all the details... the distributor said it was 'complicated') but he believed they would be able to sell direct at a much cheaper price point.

Verrrry nice, and I thought the stuff I was tough. Your work is way above my personal tolerance for pain but definitely looks worth the effort.

I am going to redo that face frame... I ordered the wrong color... but I saved the jigs/templates so it'll be a few hour job at the most. The hard parts are done. and it's not happening until fall.

Bastard.

Another job well done...

If you still have the jigs, and you are going to make another one, it probably wouldn't be that much more difficult to make two right?

When you are ready to make some kind of cabinet to hold the starboard stateroom TV let me know. I want in...

PS. My seating should be done this week, I'll post pics. I also removed the SeaRay Nav, I'll do a disassembly post.

I'm debating attacking the port stateroom before our trip or after our trip.... don't know yet....

I got a great idea though.

Bad news, Gary. You should have waited a bit. Apple announced a new Mac Mini with an HDMI port today.

I'll give you forty bucks, a roll of solder and a can of T-9 for it.

Gary, I wonder if you can just rub something on the frame to darken it instead of redoing it. Are there colored waxes?
