I have yet to do my front/master stateroom TV and convert it over to a flat screen. The Cat5 cables and video/audio hookup to the HD AV distribution system is already there. This room is tough because nothing "usable" as far as a flat screen could fit into that existing hole and there is an AC duct next to it.

Well... I contacted Restoration Marine (a CSR sponsor) and have materials for the "Sovereign Cherry" laminate product (and various other things) now on order. I am going to redo that cabinet so the air ducts will be on the bottom and a 19" flat screen HD TV will fit in the top...

I'll post progress and how this turns out... I actually have the thing all taken apart now.

Hopefully this thread does not insult anyone... especially the "I love 13" combo VCR TV's crowd"...

So what are you going to do with your collection of VCR tapes?

Ok, stupid joke aside, not sure if you have the room, but I would think that you would be better off putting the vent on the top. Wouldn't that allow the cold air to circulate better?

The AC duct is plumbed from the bottom... and changing that would require ripping into the closet behind it. Not worth it...

That sounds like an excellent plan with the rerouting of the A/C duct work giving you the extra room for a wider screen. We ran into a similar issue when I was helping my friend replace the TV in the drop down in the galley of his 380. The new TV is not as high as the old one but of course a lot wider. So we have to make an entirely new faceplate. While we are in the process of cutting it we are going to custom engrave the Sea Ray name and logo into it using the engraver we used to custom cut my table.

Are you going to recess the TV and make a new door or leave the TV exposed without the door?

No door... it'll be recessed and black laminate covering the interior box where the TV is...

I don't have to reroute much of the AC this way. The vent slots will be horizontal on the bottom and the vent behind it will be boxed sideways instead of vertical. This is the area with the faceplate off:

You can see the AC entrance on the bottom left. That will need to be boxed in going horizontal and the interior box structure for the whole TV redone. That right side black panel the door is hung on is already removed along with the 1x1 piece of wood that was holding it....

I researched this almost to death about 6 months ago. I wanted an LCD TV DVD combo and all I could ever find were side loaders. The only way I could see to do it was rebuild the cabinet. As I am fairly lazy I still have a crummy 13" vcr combo in my master.

Is there a way that you can install adjustable fins in the vent that will allow you direct the air up? Just a thought.

That's where I have been... but I'm biting the bullet this winter... I can't take it anymore.

I just don't think it's worth it. My wife keeps that stateroom at 65 degrees... it's like a meat locker in there.

Ok.. just wear socks to bed and you will be fine.

Gary did you redo your saloon TV? I'm getting ready to redo mine as that is a lot of wasted space. I think I can get a 42" LCD in the existing space.

Gary,

Food for thought...the new owner of my 390 and I worked thru a set up where he networked his GPS/Radar and a remote cock pit camera to his flat screens. Might be something to add on while your doing it...or have you planned it already?

I always thought it would be cool to monitor this stuff while in the cabin.

I see a little handle on that mirror. Does that mirror open up to a shallow closet? If so, you can open up the back of the closet and should have enough room for a place to store shoes behind your flat screen.

Gary....Why can't you put cherry to close up the hole and attache an articulating tv arm.....This would allow the tv to be flush and when you are in the stateroom and need air or watch tv you can articulate the tv out......I did something similiar to my salon tv

Kinda crappy pictures... I'm reshooting everything in there now.

I redid all the AV. I have an AVAtrix HD router that shoots everything all over the boat in twin Cat 5 connections:

The cabinets all below the TV were redone... I have a BluRay player, an AppleTV, 2 new DirectTV HD sat boxes, the Bose surround system and the bridge computer all hooked to it... Any video/audio feed can be independently routed from any source to any destination... All in 720p....

This front stateroom is just something I was avoiding.

That is the linen closet for the master stateroom. It's not that shallow... There is also a cedar-lined full-height clothes closet across the room from that. There is really not a shortage of storage to try and get another 1-2 cubic feet of storage there.
