View attachment 59331 took a local staycation for a night. went down river from Haverstraw. marina is a bit rolly until the traffic lays down , but tolerable since its north of where the ferries run. some interesting craft homeported there.

Nice! Did you have to call ahead for a transient slip? What was the cost per foot, and how was the electric and water?
Heard they have some year round live aboard that have been there for years.
Meeting a group of old coworkers at the Uptown Carmine’s in the coming weeks and would be nice to be able to take a short Uber Ride back to the boat after a few adult beverages rather than having to abstain all together.
BTW: Liberty Landing in Jersey City is pretty well protected. It’s a little pricey at about $4.00 a foot plus electric, but a nice place with some killer views of the night skyline if you want to check it out next time. Great showers too if you don’t have a separate shower stall.

yes, called ahead when I was researching, but they tried to tell me first come first serve. I had to push them a bit to understand I was coming with plans and had to have a reservation. I also called back to check as well to make sure they had me before getting underway to head down. cost $125 including the 30a power.
back in the day , late 70s / 80s, there were "liveaboards" that were on floating jalopies that became an eyesore, then the parks dept created a rule that if you couldnt get your boat underway in an hour , you could not have liveaboard status. that got rid of all the old "holiday mansions" and wooden flush decks from the 60's. there still look to be a handful left , but not nearly the state of what it was.
there is 24 hr security and there are always people around the park and restaurant. we took next day to go explore central park and the UWS neighborhood. the sunset on that side of the river is gorgeous , and you have the lights of the GW up river.
we have been to liberty last year and loved it as well. hard to believe in a city surrounded by water , that's the only protected marina in existence.

Thanks! Might give it a try if everything lines up.
Yes, crazy that there aren’t more.
Especially in places like LIC that have really built up over the last decade.
Been wondering what the newer place in Brooklyn looks like and how much you get bounced around in there. Next time I have to drive through Brooklyn for anything I might stop in with the car and see how it looks.

just from a look online at Brooklyn marina, it seems pretty much wide open to get knocked around. that area of the city is heavily travelled by ferries , and that "wave attenuator" they have on the outside will only knock down surface chop. the swell of the wake is what gets right under and snaps your lines. all these places need a corrugated steel bulkhead driven in the mud to really achieve protection, problem is the epa will not allow it due to fish migration. this is what I was told by Lincoln harbor when I lived aboard back in early 2000's. maybe there are enough rich folks in there to complain enough to someday get that changed when their million dollar sabre's get dinged up
