I have a 2005 280 Sundancer. The freshwater recently started having an odor whenever I turn on a faucet. What is the best way to sanitize the system & get rid of the odor? Thanks

There are a number of ways to do it, I use bleach mixed with water(About 1/4 cup for 15 gallons or so). Pour it in, fill the tank, open the faucets until you get a strong bleach smell and let it sit for a couple of hours. Drain, rinse, drain, rinse with a little white vinegar and you should be good to go after that. It's a common recipe used by RV and boat folks. Then, USE your water! I drain ours if there is any left at the end of each weekend and I also drink the water right out of the tap.

Just to make sure I follow correctly - I should First drain whatever water is currently in my existing tank. If I have a 28 gallon tank two of the 1/4 cup bleach per gallon of freshwater mixtures should suffice. Then fill remaining tank volume with freshwater and follow the rest of your instructions? Thanks . I will give it a try.

Empty the offending water out first, refill with fresh (1/2 fill add bleach fill up completely). Run the boat to slosh the mixture around, then drain through ALL sinks (use hot water too!) Repeat if necessary. Are you filling with well water? That sometimes gives off a foul (rotten egg) odor when it sits for a while.

In the hot weather I go to our local RV store and get a bottle of water sanitizer. It's only 4.95 a bottle for 16 oz. I usually only carry around 10 or 15 gallons of water at a time. Just add a cap full when you put in about 15 gallons. I never have a smell and don't have to change the water out as often. I still drain and refill once a month if we don't use as much.
