Fresh water in the engine room

I have a Sundancer 315 -04 modell (280 in the US) with a problem. Or maybe it is a design flaw ?

On each side, near the rear of the boat, there are "air holes" into the engine room. These air holes are tilted upwards. This makes it possible for rain to almost go straight into these holes, through large hoses (pipes) and down to the engine room.

In the country were I live, Norway, it rains a lot at autumn and winter. And when it rains and is windy at the same time, some rain (water) goes into these air holes and ends up in the bottom of the engine room. If I start the pump manual after a day or two with heavy rain, it is not uncommen that the pump pumps 5 litre of water out of the boat (the pump will not start automaticly before it is approx 10-15 litre of water in the bottom of the engine room, or so it seems to me anyway)

Is it supposed to be like this ? The pump makes sure that engine room is not filled up with water. But what happens when the battery runs empty ?

Are there any other owners here with the same problem ? Is the 280/315 modell the only boat with this flaw ? Is it possible to fix this ? Are there any new "gadgets" or partnumber from Sea Ray the add or replace parts that might eliminate this problem ?
