I just came across this website and though I would pass it one.

http://wireless.accuweather.com/

for those of us that don't have Radar and need a way to check the weather to see if we are headed into a strom. the site gives you free access based on zipcode to radar images.

this would have been real helpfull a couple of weeks ago as I should have stayed where I was instead of running smack into a major thunderhead.

Just put in my favorites on the pda. Thanks.

Really good idea.

Of course. . then you have idiots like me who don't need to look at the radar when going out: I can see the thunderheads 5 miles to the West and closing! (and I head out anyway!)

Been lucky so far. Only got poured on once out of three races this season with thunderstorms.

While it's "better than nothing" most internet radar sucks compared to using one integrated with a chartplotter. You'd be hard pressed keeping that cell phone from going overboard when the weather kicks up. That and most websites don't have useful info like storm tracks and speeds along with ground wind directions and speed. But hey, beats getting the crap kicked outta ya when trying to make a decision on when to travel or not.[/i]

in these part where thunderstorms and lighting are a daily occurance, having an idea of where the worst part of the storm is could mean the difference between making it home and not.

just yesterday 3 folks got struck by lighting. 1 at BJ's getting into his truck and 2 on the beach.

if you have at least some ideal of what a storm is doing then you can at least make an informed decision.

a couple of weeks ago I should have stayed put out at egmont key, but worried about thunderheads I decided to head home and ran right into the middle of a major lighting storm. had I waited or knew the location of the storm I would not have put my self and passengers in that risk. at least know with the radar on the cell phone I can at least check the phone before I make the decision to stay or leave.

 Use this quite often with my Blackberry at the lake where we have no internet access. No need for radar since we boat close to the house, but good to know what is coming our way....

We have worked with accuweater as a corporate vendor for weather content our sites on a global level and I can say that their service is not up to snuff. THis might be different on their consumer leve.

I personally have weather.com but the by far best weather service in my opinion is intellicast.com
