450 DA Sundancer running CAT 3126
MS DOS 3.1 computer literate, old school here.

450 Sundancer docked behind the house.

Currently limited to hotspot iPhone connections for laptop and antique iPad can tie into the Raymarine signal in some cabin areas

Need to grow a versatile system that makes things more convenient for longer travel plans and the addition of wireless equipment to expand communications, versatility, safety and convenience that has recently become more reasonably priced.

Future plans include the Florida mini-loop, a Bahamas run and ultimately (please don't laugh, I'm being serious here) the Great Loop run before I'm too old, or too dead.

This winter I'll be replacing the Sea Ray SYSTEMS MONITOR with audible alarms and mechanical gauges. Like I said, Fred Flintstone here, with no plans to go with the Maretron upgrade.

Want to integrate a system, building block style.

Currently running:
  • Raymarine AXIOM system for GPS, radar and autopilot.
  • Raymarine currently can connect via bluetooth to an antique ipad in the salon (great to monitor overnight anchoring)
  • 2 FUSION Apollo RA 770 connected together via ethernet cable
  • Smart TV & Blue Ray player in salon
  • laptop for business and CSR addiction, iphones, old ipad

Future Additions to plan for:
  • replace antique small TV to fwd cabin - only to be used in the case of the need for a sick bed while traveling
  • remove TV/VCR in midcabin and replace with a small wine fridge
  • cameras with LED lights in engine room - tied to ipad
  • cockpit security system with time delay audible alarm & flashing strobe that goes off if someone boards the boat
  • other cameras?
  • WIFI repeater in the engine room?
  • ability to tie wireless system into marina WIFI (the smart TV currently picks up the house signal at the home dock)
  • foldable WIFI antenna to allow for bridge clearance
We're not really TV watchers. Movies, yes or inclement weather activity, news & info as needed. No plans EVER to replace previous owners cockpit TV.

Boat currently wired for 1990's dockside cable & phone. Cable runs to factory salon entertainment center and to factory TV/VCR's in fwd cabin and mid cabin berths. That deck fitting is a toe stubber. Thinking about removing it but don't know if that wiring or system has any future value.

STARLINK is a future possibility, however at this moment, until the REAL SERIOUS TRAVEL starts, this item needs to not be a part of the current plan

In doing this building block style, I suppose the first item would be to add a router?

Any other upgrade, or expanded equipment suggestions are also appreciated.

Club CSR is a wonderful place to share info. Glad to be here.

BEST !

Well I will say Fred, you may want (need) to upgrade to George Jetson at some point. I am not going to try and change your mind on the system monitor. There are benefits of analog tech.

If you want to connect to marina wifi and have distributed wifi around the boat. You also will need a standard house wifi router on the boat with no need for any repeaters.

This thread will explain why the peplink is the best route: http://clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/ubiquity-bullet-m2-vs-peplink-max-br1-mini-wan-wifi.101605/

The Fusion RA770 is a stereo four zone head with every remote option there is. No need for two RA770's, not even sure why you would think it is needed?

I will say this, some of what you will never change will be changed and used by the time your done with your upgrades.
