Boat Info
1995 Sea Ray 370DA 7.4 Horizons, Ray Marine C120, and KVH.
Engines
454 Horizons
I just started the install of these two units. I tested everything first and was pleasantly surprised with the data I received on my Iphone, however I am at a standstill everything is set to go but I can't seem to find a good route to run the NEMA backbone from the engine compartment to the console.

any ideas?
Jack

If you posted the question about how to run a backbone in another thread I just answered it.
You're going to love the gateways. I'm working with Allen on an upgrade to make then even more useful. More to come.

Where is the best place to research the feasibility of adding this to a boat and what info it will display?

370Dancer, as you work with Allen, please ask what's the holdup with one of his gateways for a Motorola 555. In 2017 he wrote me "The Motorola ECM/PCM 555 is on our short-list for our next line of gateways (development to start next year)."

I've politely inquired at intervals since then, but no response. My suspicion is the Moto 555 may have codes Allen can't decipher. That, or the installed base is too small to deal with. Any insight will be appreciated, 370Dancer.

I know I have the 454 Horizons with 380 HP that came in 2000, not sure of anymore than that. I do have the serial numbers if that helps

I can't speak for Allen, but I would suspect that the market is smaller since 555 has it's own MFD solution like Smartcraft. MEFI only had one company that I know of that tried to provide an off the shelf MFD. That was Brooks and Gatehouse. Network Engine, and I think it was overcome by events as the subsequent MEFI versions came out. I will pass along your inquiry. We sometimes go months at a time without communicating.

The serial number will pinpoint the base model. Assume no ECMs have been changed?

I don’t think anything like that has been done. Here is the numbers. Any help is appreciated. Probably a winter project.

This is a great, and relatively inexpensive upgrade. I did this with my 496 HO's, and love getting digital engine data on my chart plotter - it really demonstrates just how inaccurate - or imprecise - the gauges are. The in-depth data gained over an iPad or iPhone is a huge bonus. I take a screenshot of each engine each time I go out, and store them in a file. I watch for trends or anything that looks out of place. It's like having a Rinda tool attached to each engine every time you operate it.

@370Dancer …..curious what upgrade you're working with Allen on?

I struggled with the same issue and have concluded that i will need to convert from smartcraft to nmea 2000 using either the mercury gateway or a vessel view 4. I’m leaning towards the VV since in addition to providing conversion to nmea 2000, it also displays the data on a seperate display. Vv 7 is also an option if you have enouh real estate to mount it.

Don't want to be coy, but not yet. Nothing big, but something I think would increase its value. You are in the ballpark.

Ordered two gateways this week and they’ll be here tomorrow to hook up to my mefi-1 1998 5.7efi’s. I can’t wait to see all the data.

I only have a 6.7” raymarine chart plotter at the moment. I’m creating the nmea backbone and converting seatalkNG to nmea, but since it’s also my plotter I want another small gauge to display twin tach and fuel flow. What would you recommend or what is everyone using? I like the look of the round loweance, they’re pretty cheap too

I could do another MFD but I don’t have a lot of room on our 290 dash

I monitored e-bay until I obtained 2 ST-70 displays. I mainly monitor fuel flow, RPM, and coolant temp on those, but have pages for other stuff. Everything else is watched if needed through the iPhone app.
Here's my setup.
