454 Mercruisers
Hi there, I'm looking to add the MEFI 1 gateways to my 454 mercs in a 1998 370 AC. Fox marine suggests there might be a wire connecting the two engines for them to share information and to disconnect this wire if present. Does anyone know if Sea Ray engines typically have this wire this wire to disconnect? If not I'm assuming I just set the port gateway to master and the other to slave. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Pat

My 98 5.7 MEFI1s did not have such wire. I think it was for some of the early monitoring systems. You can probably tell my looking at the OBD connector and see if it has anything attached bridging the two engines, mine were capped and completely independent. When you order two gateways they will set one to starboard and the other to port so they're ready to go.

Awesome devices, you'll love them!

My 2000 wasn’t connected either. This is a great upgrade, you will love it

I have the Fox Marine units on my 2000 and love them! They have been rock solid. I did not have to cut any wires connecting the engines.

Thanks you guys! This year I'm going to put a carbon fiber panel in the space of the analog gauges and go all digital. I've had the twin simrad displays for like 10 years now, The NSE was their best product back then and broadband radar was a new thing. I'm going to try the Simarine gauges for the batts, tanks, and temps. I tried to add a photo but it wants a URL. I'll try to make it my profile pic. Thanks again!

By the way, The previous owner installed twin floscans and they are actually incredibly accurate, just not nmea 2000 compliant. I'll be able to see if the Fox Marine info and the floscans agree with each other before I mount the Floscans in a cabinet somewhere. Now I'm trying to determine what's the best digital display for engine info that will fit. I'm thinking of putting the NSS9 EVO3s in the middle, I just can't find any youtube videos of people actually customizing engine info on the screen. Can I get a good 2 engine setup on that unit? I'll probably take a chance and see if I can do it. Or I might put the EVO3 in the middle and flank it with two Is42's showing the engine data. I just want it to look cool, lol.
