It's been four great years of ownership but this weather is the first time I'm kinda worried. I spent the last five days giving birth to a kidney stone and couldn't get into the bilge or do much of anything to the old girl. I had the bilge heater on and water temps are still good but it's the fresh water I'm worried about. Snowing now and air temps dropping into the 20's. I don't know how the northern boaters do this stuff... Headed down tomorrow to drain and blow out the system.

Having "fathered" 2 kidney stones in the past, you have my sympathy!

How do we do it? Winterize the boat in October :):) Shoot, half the people I boat with start the process the weekend after labor day.

    Good luck!

Have your game plan ready and be thorough.Take your time so when the winter chill kicks in you're not home wondering ( did I do that right)!
    Sorry about the stone.

I’m still in the water nothing winterized water temperatures in the lower 50s even though the air is in the lower 20s never been an issue for me in a 20+ years I’ve been doing this as long as the boat is in the water it should be OK if it’s on the hard well that’s a completely different story ..

I’m still in too, but I took advantage of some good weather and changed all my fuel filters and oil and filters in motors and genny. I winterized the genny, fresh water system, waste tank and heads this past weekend.
I’m all set for the final ride to the boatyard on the next canal.
AC/heat units are still not winterized so I can have some heat when hanging out. They’ll get winterized, along with the motors, as soon as it gets blocked up.

I still have some fishing left to do , probably come out after Thanksgiving the only thing I’m hesitant about ,they pulled all the buoys already I can’t stand it when they do that so early . I don’t mind using my old track marks but with the channels that I am around if you’re off by a foot or two you’re in 2 feet of water

My boat is still floating as well, but comes out Saturday. Just about everything is winterized, oils changed (less trannies), and i'll do the fuel filters in the spring. I'll winterize the main engines while i sit in the slings in the water Friday night and they'll pull it in the morning. They don't let us pump the antifreeze onto land, but would rather you do it in the water. It sure is cold out. 12 degrees at my house this morning in the hills of CT.

dwna, got any boating buds around there who can help you with the winterizing? If I were close I'd be glad to give a fellow CSR bud a hand.

Same for me. South Shore boating is not for the faint of heart. No room for error.
Get distracted for a minute and you’re screwed.
The last few trips were just following tracks. We saw the Bay Constable boat pulling buoys out a couple of weeks ago.
I ran over to Tobay for the pumpout Saturday morning and was glad to see that at least there were still buoys in the Amityville Cut. Even with buoys my a$$hole puckers going through there on plane.
Especially on the north end of it.
Other than that, the buoys were gone on the north side of the bay.
They’re usually not in yet when I get back in the water either.
I usually come out a day or two before Thanksgiving, but might bring the boat over to the boatyard one night next week now that I can’t use the head or freshwater.
Because of small patches of ice on my dock, I did left the heat on in the cabin when I left there last night and just for insurance I put the bilge heater between the motors and plugged it in. It’s on a thermostat anyway so no big deal.
The crazy thing is that I drove to my dock with the top down Monday and washed the boat while wearing a tee shirt.

My first decent sized boat was a Rinker 270 Express that I bought in Lindehurst. We transported it the beginning of April up to Mystic CT. Seas were pretty bad so there was no going outside. There were barely any bouys out so we navigated off the latest Navionics charts. We bottomed no less than 5 times, 3 of them in Moriches. I gained an appreciation for how attentive all you south shore guys must be while underway...

Me either. Had them twice. Both times I wound up being admitted to a hospital to have them removed because I couldn’t pass them.
