I know there are posts on this topic but I am hoping someone can give me an idea here.. my forward sump was/is not working correctly. I thought the problem was the float switch, as I would pull out the Rule800 with the float switch activated, put it back in and it would turn on. I would jiggle all of the wires, move them back and forth, and nothing, until I pulled the pump up a few inches, and snapped it back into place.
Today, I replaced the seperate float switch, and it worked for a bit, but....same problem. Pump will not turn on except sporadically, and usually I have to pull it out and put it back in. No wiggling of wires will do this, just the physical act of taking it out and putting it in.
My next step was to replace the Rule800 with the same, but I wanted to know: is this what bilge pumps do when they fail. Why is it turning on only when I take it out and put it back in? is there anything else that makes the connection besides the float switch?

I'm thinking a corroded connector! When you are pulling the Pump out of the sump the wire might be stretched a little and making for a better contact!

Thanks....not sure....but I can move the wires around a lot and nothing happens. The only trigger is if I pull the pump. Reading so many things about the topic, not sure if I should try to just replace the pump or replace the whole sump with all of the parts.

Jon, the pumps are cheap enough! I replaced my sump pump 2 months ago, save your old connecter and bring it tp WM! They should have both the connecter and sump pump in stock!

Thanks-- I just saw the whole contraption on WM. sorry for the question-- what do you mean by "connecter". Did you replace the plastic housing, float switch and bilge pump at once? (entire sump system). My only connectors are wires connected via butt connectors? (I order a bilge pump 800, and also check valve replacement, so basically all of my parts will be new except for the plastic housing).
