These are some pic's I took of the former Sea Ray plant in Oxford, MI. I took them about a month ago, the plant is soon to be torn down to build a Kohls store. It is at the intersection of M-24 (Lapeer Rd) and Ray Rd, SW corner across from Meijer.
I don't know when they quit production there, but I would imagine in the late 80's when they were bought out by Brunswick. almost look like the pic's in the brochures from the time.
All coments are welcome, especially the memories of others in the area who remember the plant when in production.
Does anybody know what models were built here?

Pak,

Have a look at your boat's s/n. I do not know the designator for Michigan, but someone else on the board may. SR customer service could would know. For example, the s/n for my boat starts with SERA...... The "A" indicates that my boat was manufactured in the old Phoenix, AZ plant. I believe K = Knoxville and etc.

Mine starts with SERT so I am guessing that is the Knoxville plant.

Yep ... pretty much everything up to the 340DA (Sport Cruiser line) should start with SERT these days since they are made in Knoxville, TN ... the Sport Yachts and Yachts are SERF HINs indicating Merrit Island, Florida manufacture.

OK, what letter would SR use to identify boats produced at the Tellico plant?? Wouldn't "T" make sense? When I took the Riverview and Knoxville tours in late 2002, the 280, 300, 320 and 340 DAs along with the 290BR and 290SS were being produced in the Knoxville plant. Several 100 yards away in the Riverview plant the 176 / 180 series along with the 270SD, 260DA and 290AJ were in production. SR has 3 different MFG. plants in TN. So what letters do they use for each plant?

They all should be "T" boats

I have nothing useful to add except I grew up in the next town over (Lake Orion) and knew some of the people that worked there.

There used to be a guy who had a lot of great information about Searay manufacturing - I think in Michigan. His web site is no longer up as best I can tell.

And, on the current Searay archive site there is a period of missing information, and I think it is there that I read this attributed to the information from Michigan that was supposed to be boxed and shipped to Tenn. but was never seen again. Seems that is in the 85 or so timeframe.

Not sure if these two bits have any relationship.

I worked there from 83-90 the plant closed I believe in 91? I was in the Lamination department. The building is still there but it is not a Kohl’s store.
When I worked there I would get bronchitis every year (working with the fiberglass and all the fumes), after I left I never got bronchitis again until I returned back there in 1995 making steering wheel columns with PDS, then I came down with pneumonia in Aug that was so bad I was in bed for 4 days, I never went back to the building after that and never had bronchitis or pneumonia again for the last 25 years. I do believe that it is a sick building....
