My wife and daughter are going to Spain for 2 weeks. I am looking for a foreign AC converter.... a simple one, they can use to charge IPODS and camera batteries. I found one online at Brookstone, but it says not to be used with battery chargers, radios, computers, etc....

Radioshack has a few on their website.

Does anyone have brand recommendations for a converter? Or other places to look for a converter? Thanks for the input.

I think the problem with AC to AC is the frequency. I have found that quite a few DC out chargers (my cell phone for instance) will actually accept an input voltage of 110-240V 50-60Hz of AC power and all that's needed is a plug adapter

Jeff,

Look at the chargers they want to take. Most camera/battery, computer, cell phone chargers are built to handle 110 to 240 automatically, meaning that all you need is an adapter plug.

If you are not familiar with foreign electrical systems, just about every country as it's own AC plug(s). As a result all you may need is a kit that the charger plugs into. You will need a kit and not just a single adapter because there like here there can be multiple plug types similar to our 3 prong, 2 prong same size, 2 prong different size etc.

The only thing you may not find here is a decent hair dryer. If it is feasible with their schedule, the best way to go is to just buy one there, or hope their hotel will provide one. We have tried the dual voltage travel hair dryers that are sold here and they never seem to work.

Thanks Henry....I think I will have them pick up a converter when they get to Spain....

Hi there,
We went to Best Buy. They sell converters there. It was fairly inexpensive. We used it for our camera, camcorder, etc to recharge the batteries. Also for my ipod and my hubbies PSP.
Good luck!

Yeah what he said

Just buy an adaptor kit, they are just a few pound here in the UK but it comes with various fittings so you should be able to use it any where in the world, most of continetal Europe has one standard type, so what will work in Spain should work in France,Germany etc etc the UK has a different fitment tho.
