food rationing???

Stores are hit-and-miss in Minneapolis / St. Paul. I've found that the closer you get to the "tall buildings", the more hysteria and panic buying there is with bare shelves. Mostly TP, sanitizers and cleaning products are not available in stores, although I did see some TP yesterday at Menards. We didn't need any, so I left it for the hoarders.

Seems to be plenty of stock for meat and veggies. We like fresh veggies & fruits so thats been difficult to manage because we don't want to be going to the stores every few days either - so we're buying more frozen veggies.

Wife went to Publix today, store opened @8 am, she was there @ 7;45 and was # 21 inline. She got to the meat department, no chicken or pork, got two packages of hamburger and two packages of fillets. When she got to register they told her only one package of each kind of meats...The lady let her go but damn.... BTW she went to paper isle first and got last big package of TP. Have any of you guys experienced this yet? Sh#@ is getting real my friends.... Be safe out there. Lance
Hey up here in Ontario it’s been like that for a few week, have been in lockdown for three weeks. Welcome to the new norm!
Stay safe.

I have a modest store of food supplies, but I'm taking advantage of local restaurants with their carry out specials. Ruby Tuesday has a BOGO today. I'll get two steak dinners for $20, which is a nice deal, and sure beats my wife's cooking, and it also helps keep the company in business. These deals are available most days from various restaurants.

We have two big freezers, and one smaller one full of meat. One has beef, one has pork, and the other one has three kinds of fish, and overflows from the other two, and some fresh grown veggies.
We raise a steer and two pigs each year, so we're good.
We've been raising our own meat for appx 18 years, it sure is nice. We buy two steers, sell one at butcher time, and it mostly pays for the one we keep.

This is our beef freezer. It's just the two of us, but we do give my stepdaughter some when she visits from the Seattle area.

We’re not red meat eaters so we don’t have a separate freezer. Just the one in the kitchen fridge.
No problem getting food around here though.

The local supermarkets have no real early morning lines that we’ve found. Places I’ve personally been in several times in the early morning hours and was able to get everything but paper towels are:
Stew Leonard’s, Stop & Shop, Shoprite, Guintas’s. Had no problem buying TP in Guinta’s.
My wife has been in Target several times. She reports they’re well stocked with no lines or wait. She also bought a large pack of paper napkins there for us to use in place of paper towels.
My neighbor has been to Walmart and told me there were no early lines there and the shelves were in good shape. I just hate shopping in our local one so I’ve avoided it.
Please PM me if you need the exact locations of these stores.
Not sure how Far East out on LI you may be but if you’re having trouble getting basic supplies it may lay to come this way.Traffic doesn’t seem to be an issue these days.
Thanks JVM. We are in Dix Hills so probably not too far from you and I’ve also been to Stop and Shop early in the morning. We are in good shape but I’ve been shopping for my 90yo parents who live in Bethpage. Appreciate the info though.

I'm in the wholesale retail produce business in PA. There is no shortage of basics in the supply chain locally or regionally. Supply to stores is stressed due to demand. Wholesale only markets that cater to restaurants are LOADED with meats and produce items they can't move out fast enough as their clients are all shut down. SISCO was selling 50 pound Chef potatoes for $1 a bag. I was in a wholesaler on Wed and they had at least 500 50 pound bags or yellow onions sitting on pallets marked to 9.95 a bag. Cryo packed meats were being discounted as they were approaching code date. No quantity rights on beef, chicken or pork. They had eye of round on sale for $2 a pound. Supply varies by region but as a rule right now, retail demand is soaring and food service demand is dead.

I’m a chip shot away from the entrance to Bethpage Park golf course. When they have tournaments and close the roads they usually have the pedestrian entrance at the end of my street.
If you’re shopping for them over this way:
Stew Leonard’s in Airport Plaza and Guintas on 109 just west of 110 have been pretty well stocked in the early morning senior shopping times.
Local 7-Elevens have consistently had plenty of milk too.

Appreciated. They are in the TOB senior complex on Central Ave. Hope to see you soon on the water.

There were supply issues about 2 weeks ago in Western NY. The stores reduced their hours so the staff could re-stock over night, and now 99.9% of everything is available again.

The only continuing issue is getting ammo. But anybody that knew anything would have foreseen that and stocked up beforehand.

I told you guys we are in the supply chain for bullets for the DOD... our orders have almost doubled and mandated lead times have decreased 25%...
I have no idea but I wonder if the DOD takes consumer ammo?... I know a lot of people are buying it... but does that trigger the DOD to buy?

Holy crap!.... don’t show us your toilet paper closet ...we know where the party is if the power goes out :)
Lol, tp is just our normal supply.
We have a pork freezer the same size that's full also.

I stocked up on 9mm & .38 ammo years ago right after Cuomo got elected here in NY.

Texas is absurd. Moved here a couple of years ago and quickly learned the locals view anything slightly out of the norm to be a potential Armageddon. Not kidding, it's absurd.

Fortunately having learned this the hard way - was ahead of the curve on paper items, cleaning supplies, food and such. I buy our meat from a butcher, there's been no issue there. Krogers/Albertsons/Sams Club/Costco.....forget about it. No paper products, no cleaning products, no macaroni and cheese, in fact no noodles for anything, no water, shelf after empty shelf everywhere. It's ridiculous.

Here in Houston we have everything, well stocked shelves. I primarily shop at HEB.

When this first started we had the low information alarmist types trying to clear off all the shelves. Now that they have spent all their money and over stocked, it's gotten back to normal.

And I have seen some of these alarmist types trying to return items to the store, only to be turned away.

Texas is huge. What is absurd is that someone would bash the whole state for the actions of a few in their little corner of it.

Well, I finally lost it... At Walmart I saw a young man whose cart was FULL to the brim with hand sanitizers, toilet paper, paper towels, baby wipes, everything that people need!

I called him a selfish jerk, and told him to leave some for the sick, the elderly, and people who really need these types of things. I also told him he should be ashamed of himself!

He said: “Are you done? Because I really need to get back to restocking the shelves now...”
