Followed this last night. Notice the tow mirrors

Back in February 2017 my son bought a brand new 2017 Subaru WRX but he wasn't very experienced driving a stick so that night he drove my truck to work. Me and my wife took his WRX out to dinner. Car had about 30 miles on it by this time. It was a warm February night and a convertible Mitsuibishi pulled up beside us on a 4 lane with their top down and 4 younger kids in it. He was trying to get me to race him. Firstly the car was brand new and not broken in. Secondly I was concerned about what these kids in this car might have done. 3x they took off then slowed to wait for me to get beside him again. I never took the bait and he finally just drove off.

I saw a guy die that way. 300 ZX racing a Mustang on a divided highway, 4 lanes both directions. The Mustang was in the fast lane and had a clear shot. The 300 was next to the Mustang but had to switch to the next lane to the right to avoid traffic. I should say they were going well over 100 MPH. Anyway a car moved over from the slow lane right in front of the 300, the driver of the 300 swerved and lost control, the car launched off the end of a guard rail and hit a concrete bridge support about 8' above the ground and the engine compartment separated from the passenger compartment. The passenger compartment landed right side up and pretty much intact except the driver's door was open. Unfortunately the driver chose not a seat belt and upon hitting the support column he was ejected from the car when his door opened. My buddies and I stopped on the bridge and ran down the embankment. That was a truly broken human being. Thank God some off duty EMTs were right behind us and tried to render aid. But his fate was sealed.

Any way, Tom the only way your story could be better would be if it was a Prius instead of a Tesla. But Prius and "burst of acceleration" don't belong in the same sentence.
What’s up with the Prius bashing??

Good question…..as I said we’re on our third. MUCH better acceleration in this one that the previous two. I’m a realistic kind of guy. They’re not the prettiest cars on the road……they’re also NOT the ugliest. They’re not the fastest cars on the road…..they’re also not the slowest. Now, let’s consider one other impressive stat……we’re getting 58.5 miles per gallon. I spelled it out……58.5 MPH. We CAN afford a car that is faster, sleeker, etc. of all the years we’ve had the three Prius(es?lol), we had to replace ONE starter battery. That was our ONLY repair. All of these savings helps us put a lot of gas in our Sea Rays!:cool::p:p:cool:

Well they are tiny and virtue signaling....:p

My issue is not so much with the car but the drivers. The last 30 miles of my drive to our lake is hilly (through the Ozark mountains - not really mountains, just large hills). Seems like every other time I make the drive I end up in front of or behind a Prius. I always set my adaptive cruise control at 81 MPH. The Priuses will go screaming down the hills and ride my ass or pull away from me. Then, on the uphill portions they lose momentum and don't have the power to keep up speed and slow to 55-60. And they refuse to get out of the fast lane. I think they're just pissed because they over paid for an under powered roller skate. They kind of remind me of VW Bug or Pinto owners. YMMV:cool:

PS - And #ttmott did say the Tesla had a "burst of acceleration" or something like that. I have never seen a Prius have a burst of anything except outbursts from angry owners....

Back when my grandson was born, my daughter traded in the Corolla I had given her as a HS graduation gift for a used Prius. Wasn't a bad car until the air conditioning went out. She was quoted $3,500 to fix the air conditioning. With a new baby she felt she needed the air conditioning so she then bought a new Chevy Equinox. It was either a Friday or Monday built car... she was on a first name basis with people in Detroit. She finally went back to a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid.

It is impressive. This was my last road trip, driving 70-80 mph

Probably not about the price. $22k for a nicely optioned brand new car and a 150k warranty. (full disclosure June 2021 purchase)

Idiot drivers come in all sizes and drive all types of cars (and boats)
BMW/Honda/Mercedes chasing each other swerving through traffic, lazy a$$h013s that drive with their brights on because one low beam is out, center and right lane tailgaters, and those shitty sounding mufflers etc.

True. But I just run into a disproportionate number of angry Prius drivers.

Love your boat by the way. We had the same setup, just a couple years older, on our first boat. I have a soft spot for the 240. We just got to the point where we have14-16 friends and family that want to come to the lake 3 or 4 times a season. And Marine Max made an offer we couldn't refuse.

Very nice, seriously. I am very happy with my ICE Mazda 6. I average 38.5 MPG at 82 MPH on the highway. Overall I get a combined 30 MPG. That is a function of my taking my car on every back road I can find and driving it as aggressively as possible.

I’m with you on that, I’m happy with our Prius, but I’m not interested in converting anyone or being converted. Everyone has the right to drive whatever they want, as long as they do it safely for us all.

Agreed.

I wasn’t even looking to buy a car never mind even the Prius. I went to Toyota looking for an inexpensive 3 year lease to get my daughter through college/grad school. He had 60 Prius Primes in stock and over $11k in rebates on them. It was a no brainer.

Question for the group….so a Mechanic is on the boat, mains rumbling in idle, one of the tacks is reading 600-700, right where I want it. The other tach is reading 1000-1100, but the engine does not sound any different(faster idle) and the synchronizer is reading 12 o’clock…dead even. So the mechanic whips out a small gadget, walkie-talkie sized, with an pull-out antennae, and says….”yep dead on, 650 rpms”.
So two things…..obviously I have a bad tach, and what was the thing he had (I didn’t even think to ask him, duuuuh), I want one!
