I know the procedure for fogging MPI engines calls for a cocktail of 2 cycle oil in the fuel filter but how would one do it with a cool fuel module as opposed to a spin on filter?

Why not just open the top of the filter box and pour some 2 cycle in? Keep things easy.

How about them Bears!!! (D'oh!)

12 men on the field! What, can't count that high because they only have 10 fingers and they can't see their toes! :smt013

I'll see if I can find out which way the guys at the shop do it. But, if it was me, I don't see why 2 oz into the newer fuel filter canister is any different than 2 oz into a spin-on. The engine is still going draw the same amount of fuel per minute, you know?

Hmmm... Do you think the newer canister holds more or less fuel than the spin-on?

OK, I'm missing something here. I normally skip the fogging with my MPI and just run with fuel stabilizer. Am I potentially doing something wrong here. What could be some consequences?

Thanks,
Mike

The guys at the shop said they do it just like a spin-on. Really, whether you make the cocktail in a separate container or right in the fuel canister, it's the same thing. They use about 2 oz of 2-cycle and an ounce or two of Stabil. Either way, it gets the job done and that's what's important.

SO If you have the Spin on can fuel water separator is it safe to assume you do not have the cool fuel system? I don't see it but I alsi am not a contortionist :smt100

Still have the cool fuel - but it's a stand-alone module - bottom, port side of engine. I have one on my EFI, as well.

Dennis you dont happen to have a diagram do you? The manual does a terrible job explaining it!

No, I'm sorry I don't. I'm 99% sure your basic set-up is the same as mine. Look for a black, plastic box - probably inside of or right behind the port engine mount. Inside it is the fuel cooler and the fuel pump.

If you follow the rubber hose off the aft side of that box, it should go back to the transom wall - about equal with the top of the engine to another cooler - that is your power steering cooler. If you keep following the hose, it goes down to your drive's water intake.

If you come back up to the fuel cooler, and follow the rubber hose forward, it will come up to your T-Stat, port side, front.

So, basically, you have: Drive water inlet... PS cooler... Fuel Cooler... T-Stat.

Let me know if that's not right.

I have 350 Mag MPI engines, and here is what my mechanic did:
- he pulled the cover off the flame arrestor
- unscrewed the arrestor
- started the motor and revved to 1300 RPM
- slowly dumped a small bottled (didn't get the name off the bottle) of some kind of treatment directly into the throttle body
- the engine choked and stalled

Did he do something wrong?

Very nice, Scott!

Out of curiosity, what do you do with the leftover gas? Just dump it in your car? Or, back in the boat's tank?

Last year, the snow blower ate it all, I hope this year there is some left for the mower in the spring.

From all reports I've seen so far, it's not looking so good for you to have any left in the Spring:wow:

Hello Everyone, new Searay owner here, 2007 32 Sundancer, I have been reading this thread and have a couple questinons. My previous boat (1996) had Mercs and I did the standard fog in the carb, one mechanic told me i could fog in the air intake on the 2007 vs the remote fuel tank method so thats what we did.

1. I see some posts referring to opening the cool fuel filter assembly and pouring 2 oz of 2 cylce oil and 2 oz of stable, if you do this how long do you run it and how do you know you didnt use all the oil up and suck straight gas into the engine?

2. if you do the remote tank I am not clear on where you connect the hose, if you disconnect the boat fuel tank is the high pressure pump after the cool fuel assembly so nothing comes out of the tank line???

3. since i already fogged in the intake, Whats the likelyhood that we damaged a sensor?

Thanks
Ted

Hey guys, I'm also curious as to where to connect in the auxillary tank. There seems to be a connection very accessible right out of the main tank. Just unscrew that hose from the main tank and screw it into the appropriate connector on the aux tank?

Also, I know the merc manual says to mix up a 5+ gallon recipe. That seems like a lot. I only have one boat with one engine. Would it be safe to halve the recipe and still be effective?

I disconnect the line at the main tank and hook it into my remote 3 gal tank line. My engine uses about 2 GPH at 1300 RPM so the 3 gal remote tank can do both engines with gas to spare assuming running each engine about 5 minutes.

Instead of putting a hole in a remote tank to plumb a fuel line, cant i just stick the hose down into the remote tank?
