Ok this is a two part question.
I have a 1997 330 Sundancer with twin 454 7.4L 4 barrel carbs chevy big bocks and bravo 1 out drives.
In the cockpit are the engine flush mounts so you do not need to put on mufflers.
The hose runs into the top of the manifolds not under the engine blocks.
I was told that since the hoses run on top that there is no need to start the engines when flushing because the water is forced thru the blocks wehn coming from the top.
First question is is that accurate? I always thought the Thremostat had to be open for the engines to flush.

Second question is has anyone used salt away on those type of engines and if so did you run them while adding the product or not.

Thanks for you help.

If you are going to run the motors, you need to have water going through the raw water pump.with no water on the drives you will kill your impellers in minutes.I would say the flusher you have is with the engine off.

If you're plugging the hose straight into the manifold, you're bypassing the thermostat, so no need for it to be open. When you flush on an automobile, you need the thermostat open so that you can flush the radiator, but on a boat, there isn't one, so the thermostat just allows fresh water in, and there isn't anything to flush on the topside. It still wouldn't hurt to run some earmuffs though and flush out the lower unit and outdrive.

TEXAS. I thought that the water runs down into the lower units and flushes them out anyway. Other wise were woud the water be escaping from? Now you have me wondering if the water is going thru the whole system.

The water will go out through the exhaust and the standard water outlet. The only place that won't get any water is the standard water intake. Best way to try it is to hook it up and then go see where all the water is draining from.
