Flush Muffs was Ear Muffs

With the 4.3L what is the best ear muff system to get for flushing? I see different styles and sizes and have no idea which is the best to use on this engine. Thanks...

I don't like to wear ear muffs. Usually wear a hat when cold weather boating.

okay now to get serious.

I have the basic flushing device that has the v shaped piece of steel and a muff on each side but water only comes in on one side. I have used this same flushing unit without a problem for 18 years. With that said. I have always worried that the muff would slip down past the intake and not be draw into the motor. I recently saw a device that has a thin metal rod that feeds through the water intake on the outdrive and clamps the 2 muffs together. It seems like that unit might be a little more secure (peace of mind)

Yeah... seeing that subject "Ear Muffs" looked very weird.... So I changed it for Flush Muffs

I like peace of mind... Do you remember where you saw them Wish?

Thanks

but now you made my response look silly.....okay it was silly anyway.

I know I saw them at my local dealer (not sea ray). I search overtons and basspro and they did'nt come up. I will try and stop by and get the brand. I'm thinking it is either Tempo or SeaChoice but not 100% sure.

I stopped by the local Marine Store. Yeah it was tough on me! :)

It was a product from Mercury part # 44357T-2

Dave I think you misspelled boatersworld. :smt018
maybe it is like on this site where you can't type certain words or the get edited. When you type any supply dealer it gets switched to overtons.

are there any I/Os that have the quick connect like the outboards (Mercury/Yamaha)? That would be a nice feature.

Thanks Wish2fish.... I might give this one a try... I like the fact that it is held in place.

Great topic Greg, I am with you on this one. I can not tell you how many times I have been standing at boater's world or bass pro looking at them and saying I do not know which one is right. Maybe a pro will come along and tell us a step by step process because I really just do not get it. They have retangular ones and circle ones but none of them look like they are right in my opinion. You look at the muffs and there are no instructions, just confusing in my opinion. Again thanks for asking the question I have a feeling you are not alone on this one.

Hey Wesley you have to have it in Salt Water first :smt043 Sorry I could not help myself :smt021

Seriously I thought I remember a topic about flushing or was that on the other board

Chuck, perhaps if Wesley purchased a set of "flushing" muffs as described above, attached them to his outdrive, and then ran a hose from his fresh water tank to the muffs, he could go on both trips as he would then have a closed cooling system  . No more saltwater worries!

Just bring a couple of extra water jugs!

I tell you what you guys are funny :smt009

I quess the reason why I was wanting to use the muffs was because for the last three months the boat has been sitting except for last weekend. What I would have liked to do is pull the boat out every three weeks and runs her on the muffs. Just to have everything continue to be use to running. But maybe I am thinking wrong on that

That's pretty much overkill Wesley. but after a run on OLD RED.....Lake Wylie......you may want to consider flushing that stuff out of the block.

And Charlie......I think you are on to something with your "Rube Goldberg" closed cooling system. Why don't you apply for a patent and you and Wesley can do all the development work together. Maybe you could call it the Salt Away Cooling System.

I just did that this weekend..pulled her out of the garage and ran her for about 20 minutes..first start in 2 months and was pleased that she started up without a problem....Great minds think alike!
