Florida Members?

I installed a fishfinder on my 185. wasn't too hard. for more help on that, i'd post in the electronics section.

as far as ramps, i used to go to safety harbor because it was close to my house. the bad thing was it is forever to get anywhere, and the tide gets real low.

in your boat, you can go tubing or skiing on lake tarpon at chestnut park, up east lake road. lake tarpon is the second largest lake in florida. on summer afternoons, go around 4, and you have the lake to yourself until dusk. on weekends, it's more crowded, but not nearly as crowded as any gulf-access ramp.

the best ramps that were accessible were clearwater and dunedin. clwtr is bigger and easier to negotiate by water.

again, on weekdays, neither is too bad. on weekends, they are an absolute zoo.

caladesi island is about a 20 minute ride from the clwtr ramp by water, and it's all intracoastal. all you need is a paper chart and a compass to get there. there are some other islands around, like 3 rooker bar (north caladesi by anclote key), and anclote key that you can get to in your boat. again, get a paper chart. approach depths can get shallow, but with your draft, stick to the charts and you're fine.

these are all 20-30 minute intracoastal rides to some of the most beautiful beaches in florida (in the case of caladesi, #2 in the country!).

ps - go to the customer appreciation event at caladesi on may 18-20. come out on sunday, anchor on the gulf side, and have a great day. they have beach olympics and a bar-b-q lunch. if you have a slip reserved with MM, you can overnight fri and sat, but they are probably full by now. you can also walk the docks and check out boats (one of my favorite things to do), and they usually have some cool company-owned boats to tour.

Thanks for the tips. I knew about aquapaloza from MM. Think I've received about 20 pieces of mail about it.

Unfortuantly with Family coming towards the end of the month I'm out of vacation time from work to go so maybe next year.

a 240 Sundeck isn't much of a sleep over boat anyways unless you like camping under the stars. MM actually told me when I went the other day with my free $25 coupon for their store they the slips are in deed sold out.

Of couse while I was there we picked out our next boat even though our current one is only 6 months old haha. Next one will be more suitable for sleeping over.

I'll post over in electronics as you suggested, what I need to do is take some pictures of what I think is the right way to do things and then ask but let me ask this.

When you intalled yours did you just tap into the power/ground behind the console or did you run new power and ground back to the battery?

Maybe I'm being overly careful or just plain anal :) but in my mind the right way to do it would be to run a new power and ground up to the console from the battery/fuse block using either an open spot not in use or adding an additional fuse block then hooking the unit up to that. But then do I need the inline fuse as well at the unit? Also I have no clue if there are places to run the wires where they would be hidden because I'll need to run the GPS attenna to the port side above the head from the console/unit on helm (starboard side) so I've not really looked to see if there are places to run the wire.

Again like you said probably better for all these qustions in the electronics forum which is where I'll head next.

might be good to post those questions in the sport boats section. there are other 240 sundecks here that can probably answer those questions better.

i had an open fuse spot, for auxiliary devices, so i tapped into that. i went ahead and left the inline fuse - i don't know if that was proper or not, but it was already wired, so i didn't really see a reason to cut it out.

for the customer appreciation deal (it's not aquapalooza), you can always go on sunday, and anchor off the beach and walk in. when we had the 185, went 2 years that way. with the draft of that boat, i was able to park in about 2 feet of water, and give the kids piggy-backs in. of course, after a little while, they were wet anyways.

even just going to the sunday part of the event is still fun to do.

Let me ask about anchoring off the beach like that also this year I was told they will have shuttle boats so you don't have to get in the water to get on to the island.

I've used my anchor on my SD240 already and it worked great but as you would figure the wind and currents push the boat in the direction they are going which leads me to ask about a second anchor off the back to prevent that.

When getting a second anchor what is typical? Should it be the same size as the main one or smaller or different?

If your off the shore I would think you would want to use both so your boat doesn't have the chance to swing around and ground itself or swing into other boats if there is a current or wind change.

A small stern anchor can be used. Many people use a small shore anchor to tie themselves into the beach.

When I did it, i didn't use either, and it worked OK.

I heard they will have shuttles this year also. That even gets bigger every year.

Kaug23 checking in from Altamonte springs. My wife and I are out on the boat regularly. Usually over on the west coast, Tarpon/New Port Richie area, but also on the St. Johns. We did an overnighter to Hontoon park saturday, and will probably go again next weekend.

Kurt

Craig & Joan from New Port Richey, here. We will check out Hontoon Park. Thanks for posting it.

So tell me what everyon's favorite ramp is, and if anyone has any experience wiring up a GPS.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, I just went through a not so great experience having the dealer install the GPS/Sonar Combo (Garmin 398) where they charged me for 9.5 hrs at $95/hr. I would suggest DIY or someone else that doesn't charge so much/hr.

Hontoon Island State Park is pretty nice once you get through the never ending idle zones. If coming from the south pay very close attention where the river bends around through Lake Bearsford, it can get really shallow there. Stay to the temporary marker on you starboard side.

If you don't mind me asking which dealer? Or you can PM me if you prefer.

There's no excuse that I can possibly think of for that to take 9 hours at a dealer.

MarineMax in Clearwater was the dealer

Interesting that is where we bought our boat they told me it would be $500 to install my 3205 on my 240SD

I suspect one difference in the price is the sonar. If it's a thru-hull, then that would take some work. If it's transom mount (I doubt the dealer would do that because it looks cheap), it would be easy.

Bingo! It's a cheap looking transom mount.

I got raped...install charge for me was approximately 500-800 :smt021

craig -

are you going to the caladesi customer appreciation event next week? you should go if you can.

We Can't! :smt013 It's my Mom's 80th birthday party on Redington Beach, can't get the boat out there the whole weekend. It looks like a blast.
