So many options when it comes to updating flooring in the cabin area. What product have you installed, cost and how do you like it?
Bamboo! don't know what it cost. I didn't install it, the previous owner did. Absolutely love it, it stays cool, looks awesome and is super easy to keep clean. It does show dings, though, so if you drop something on it it will have a dimple. If my new boat (2002 510 Sundancer) didn't have such perfect carpet, I wouldn't hesitate to use bamboo again. Here is a link to my Boattrader ad, you can see the interior and the flooring in the pictures. 1998-sea-ray-450-sundancer-7950127
5 years ago, I installed 3/8 inch engineered hardwood and replaced all of the vertical carpet. I wanted the look of hardwood but couldn't find a quality vinyl product that emulated the thin width boards. Due to the small area, the cost of materials was very reasonable. Can't imagine what the labor cost would have been if I had hired it out. Pretty sure I had 40 hours in labor pulling up the old carpet, it comes up in tiny squares! For us, durability isn't an issue, it's just the 2 of us and an 8 lb. dog. Hopes this helps.
finally, someone that replaced the vertical carpet. How was that secured and how bad was that to remove compared to the carpet glued to the floor? lastly, did you add a subfloor for leveling, or was it in pretty good shape to just put the new floor down?
I'm curious how tall you are? I'm 6'1 and have about -.05" clearance from my head to the top of the door when entering the master berth. If I had to give up 1/2" more clearance for some sweet flooring my bald head would be in even worse shape than it already is
The vertical carpet didn’t have as much glue as compared to the floor, still a pain to remove. Can’t remember what glue I used on the carpet, think I got it at Home Depot. The container is in one of the pics, but label is facing the wrong way! The floor was in good enough shape, I didn’t level or sub floor. The 3/8” engineered hardwood had enough flex in it to to compensate for some ups and downs.
If I recall correctly, used urethane glue. Only glued down a few of the boards that wouldn’t sit flat on their own. The rest just float. Wasn’t sure if that was going to work but it did.
Home Depot Allure floating Luxury vinyl Flooring. Johnny Corners for your hatches Search me on this forum. I've done 2 boats and a couple of houses with this stuff. Still looking good 10+ years later.
in a 380, the floor in the master stateroom. The floor rolls up on the port and starboard side. Did yours do that? If so, how did you ha die it?
Mine is flat. I did a 38 Carver that was raised at the bow around the Vee Berth (hull chine). It was pretty well defined, so I just did what the carpet did. It wasn't too pronounced..
the Allure is certainly flexible enough to follow the curve upwards, if that is what I am seeing. The 370 has steps and pull our drawers where I think these 2 areas are. It's the same hull, so I guess they were trying to make the vee berth feel bigger.
