There is a plastic flex pipe that appears to run from the outdrive to the transom. I've attached a pic. Would some tell me what it connects. I'm assuming it feeds water to the engine or its an exhaust pipe from the engine. I've attached a picture.

so this is an engine exhaust like a tail pipe on a car?

Yes... I see an exhaust bellows, a shift cable, and a grounding wire.

The bellows carries the exhaust down to the propeller where it's blown out. That will close up some when the drive is down. Not a huge deal to be broken there, might be a bit louder.

The broken exhaust bellows - meh. However, if your exhaust bellows looks that bad, you can bet that your gimbal bearing and shift cable bellows are hot on its heels. If either of those breaks, it's trashed bearings and a water leak. Get them outa there!

Roger, i just had all that replaced and the bellows were replaced with the Merc ‘sport’ bellows, no idea why called that. But it don’t connect to outdrive anymore. Comes out transom and thats all, follow me, when outdrive is down it smashes against the OD. But it doesn’t actually connect to OD when up. Hard to explain, look into it. I am told if you buy the kit (shift cable, gimbel bearing, etc) it comes with both. Google Bravo 1 sport bellows.
I was told it would be louder but only when OD up and frankly i like it. Nothing like the blubeda blubeda of a big block.

LOL, I love the "blubeda blubeda of a big block" sorry for the late reply. I think I'm going to do the same thing - Gimbel, cable, belows. Thanks!
