I have a 2003 280 Sea Ray Sundancer. Purchased boat 2.5 years ago. Previous owner had engine rebuilt due to water coming in through the exhaust manifold. His flapper valves went bad. Destroyed the engine.
Six months ago my engine overheated and the same thing happened again. Engine destroyed. Good news is
my insurance paid for most of repairs because the engine was so new when I purchased it. I have mechanical
breakdown insurance.
Question: Has anyone had a similar issue? I'm told that when the engine was installed in the Sea Ray factory
it was mounted too low in the engine room which allowed sea water to get into the engine through the flapper
valves. I have a 496 Bravo V8. I am currently installing two 4" exhaust risers instead of the 2 " stock exhaust risers. I would love to hear if anyone has ever had this same problem.
