FL Keys trip

I was at Holiday Isle in Islamorada this afternoon. It needs to be off the list of anything I'd recommend. It is so badly worn it's pretty pathetic. Rust stains down the side of the hotel, the dock looks like it's ready to fall down and so on. Pretty rough. Bummer, it used to be a fun spot.

As mentioned elsewhere, the Islamorada Fish Company has good dockage, a good place to eat and a good vibe. It was jammed today for lunch on a pretty lousy weather day.

Thanks for the update. Holiday Isle was one place we were looking at, so its good to know we should look elsewhere. Only been to Key West lately so I appreciate all the feedback! I'll look into Islamorada Fish Company

I stayed down there a little while ago in Marathon in boot key municipal marina. They had docks and a mooring field, we stayed in the field. It was great. We also stayed at Smuggler's cove marina, Islamorada, not so great. There is a restaraunt/bar right next to Smuggler's cove that has a dock. We stayed the night there one night because we did some drinking and I didn't want to move the boat. The owner said he lets boats stay overnight all the time and it was no problem. The next morning we had breakfast there, it was great. Once we got to Key West, we stayed at Key West Bight in a slip for about 8 days, it was great.

My buddy owns a great place with a dock and a ramp on property in Marathon Called Sombrero Reef Inn. He also has a restaraunt called Sparky's Landing that is a great place to eat. His name is Matt and he and his wife run both places. Great place to stay and eat. Here are the links:

i've said this in another thread... If Key Largo is where you want to be you might take a look at the Mariott. I know that they have slips available for free for hotel guests, but I do not know if they rent the slips as transient. Also, take a look at the Key Largo Grande. It's been under a couple different management companies but I think it is a Hilton now. Nice concrete dockage. Again, I do not know if they do transient slips or not... Both are on the bay side and are nice properties.
