Fixing stripped screw mounts

Hopefully this makes sense . . . on my cabin door there are two machine thread screws that mount the "male" locking/hook piece that goes into the female main door latch. This hook piece is on the top of my two piece door and folds into the other piece.

Ok, so inside a plastic insert there are to two pieces that the machine scews screw into. They are kinda like "fixed nuts" but I don't think they are. Well, they are stripped so the scews won't tighten and the latch is loose. The previous owner or sea ray simply slid it over to a "fresh spot" and used self threading screws in the plastic. That didn't hold long.

How can I re-seat these screws without removing the fixed pieces containing the strip threads? Is there some adhesive bond that will permanently hold them in place? If this makes no sense I'll post pics this weekend.

On second thought, maybe some tee nuts would work. You can flatten the little ears if they can't puncture the plastic. Just drill a hole, and insert them from the bottom. You might use a little epoxy to hold them in place
