Fishing The Harbor Entrance???

I believe that was "Slick Willie" Sutton
Damn straight.

I get frustrated with fisherman frequently. NOT all, but many do not understand the rules and laws of the water. Our marina is right next the the launch ramp. Many do not understand that no wake means no wake, the BIG signs at the entrance the the marina says no fishing in marina, yet they fish in the the marina. They constantly cut you off and do not understand what right of way means. They will throw a anchor in the middle of a narrow channel and you need to drive slightly outside of the channel to avoid hitting them. They even park their truck and trailer in our private marina parking lot since it is closer than the parking lot for the launch ramp! Again not all fishermen are like this, but there are more than there should be.

I think that everyone should be required to take a boaters course and there should be a mandatory check up test every 5 years.

I believe the OP was describing vessels fishing on Lake Michigan and not in the channel. The channel BTW is not narrow and allows room for 600 foot long ocean going ships to transit the area with enough space on both sides for recreational vessels to come and go at the same time. It is unlikely that entrance was blocked by fishing vessels although it may well have appeared to be that way to a visitor to the area for the first time. This is common when the salmon run and becomes even more congested when the mouth of the harbor becomes the hot spot for fishing in the fall.

Not in the channel is correct but the boat was physically on the north side of the channel while the planer boards were just coming across the south channel. We generally run planer boards at about 2 1/2 mph.
