First Trip of 2008

Awesome!!! Is the boat yard in B-more or Rock Hall area?
The yard is in Elkton, and it's really more of a building than a "yard" since the boat was stored indoors this winter (which I highly recommend). IF we're actually in the water on Friday, we will bring the boat to Baltimore (Harbor East) this weekend, where we will stay for a couple of months before moving to RH.

FINALLY....I got the summer canvas on this morning and straightened up a few things in the cockpit. I didn't do a Real cleaning, but enough to pass....then, into the ER and OPENED the seacocks, check all systems, and FIRED THEM BAD BOYS UP......I was impressed with the minimal Puff of white smoke and they came right to life and hummed liked they were never even put to sleep. One more check over in the ER, then I untied the lines, unplugged the shore power and ONE LONG on the air horns......just a short taunt in the Barnegat Bay but it sure did put a  on my face....

Tomorrow, I'll start the real cleaning.....

uh, i changed my spark plugs yesterday. all 16 of em!

From what I’ve read on this post, it seems us Mid-Atlantic boaters do a good mix of differing preparations for the cold season. By now, we have all completed those preparations and are living with the result. I decided this year at the last minuet to pull it and do a full winterization. While many of my fellow boaters left them wet, and perhaps set up heaters or did partial winterizations. Regards, these last few days have definitely had me second-guessing my decision. In addition to that, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about spring, and my first weekend on the water. Last night I think I decided our first overnighter was going to be down the James and up the bay to Cape Charles, for a couple of days at Bay Creek. Looks like a GREAT place!

If any have been, I’d love to hear your opinions of the facility, and recommendations on what to see, do, and most importantly – Where to EAT and DRINK.

Also, for you lower Ches. Bay boaters, where is your first overnighter going to take you? Love to hear some of the other great spots out there.

Say when, we have been talking about Cape Charles for quite a while ourselves.

Good news about Bay Creek. Thanks Standerds. I'll make room for the sticks for sure! BTW, beautiful 44. With the pewter hull to boot. It happens to be me dream boat. Been trying to talk the Admiral into down grading our much to large home for 2 people, into a nice low maintenance condo, and a 44! Haven't closed the deal yet, but we are making progress.

We did exactly that this year. We downgraded from a 3000+ square foot house with the big fancy landscaped yard (10+ yards of mulch to lay down every year) to a 2000 square foot house in a no maintenance/association neighborhood, all so we could have more time on the boat. I'ts the best decision we ever made. We don't own a lawn mower now, hope I never will again.

We went for a cruise yesterday after cleaning the boat for 3+ hours. What a beautiful day "down here", turned rainiy and cold though around 6 PM.

BTW, first time ever using the Yacht Brite Serious Marine Cleaner on the inside and helm area...this is some good stuff. I highly recommend it.

Finally got a chance to take the boat out on her first "pleasure" trip! Headed out Friday afternoon to Baltimore for the night, the cruise back to the South River Saturday was absolutley spectacular! Gorgeous sunny day out on the bay  This boat rocks and is ultra comfortable, so happy we got a Sea Ray!

I'm thinking the second or third weekend in May, weather permitting. If not then, will probably wait until June. I got my spot reserved at Kingsmill for the weekend of the LPGA Michelob Open. That’s the first weekend in May. Then Memorial Day weekend we'll probably do a couple of day trips, and spend the evenings at the dock hanging with the locals. That will put us in June if those weekends in between are nice. Looks like too nice of place to waste a bad weather weekend at.
