Hello all. First let me apologize as I'm sure you've seen this question a million times. I just recently purchased an '81 SRV 260 and the teak is in great shape but is pealing a bit. The anchor locker door is rotted and I plan on rebuilding using what's left as a template. The boat is in great shape but the wood appearance will be my first project. Any suggestions? I was directed to West Marine by the owner on some basic sealers after a good sanding but I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Back in the 80's I had a crusier with the full teak swim platform and had good luck with the Starbrite products. First I used the stripper and "bronze wool" to remove all the old stuff. Then used the "brightener" to lighten the color, rinse thoroughly and let dry completely. Another sanding with the bronze wool to get surface smooth and then applied several coats of teak oil. About once a month during the season, would apply additional coat of oil.

I saw some stuff at the Boston Boat show, Yankee Teak Cleaner. that looked very interesting. Has anyone tried this?

Besides having added a few teak items (table, cup holder, new dashboard) to Bella, we also have teak outdoor furniture. In the past with the furniture it has been a case of washing and sanding and oiling every few years. This Yankee stuff looks like it really cleans the crud off avoiding the sanding. I am planning to get some as soon as the weather reaches the point of being warm enough to work outside.

Henry
