Hello, I just purchased a Sea Ray 300 Weekender on Lake Michigan. The boat is about 75 miles from my port and I will be moving her by water soon. She has twin 350 inboards and two 100 gallon fuel tanks. Can anyone estimate if I will need to stop for fuel on the way? I will be making the trip from Saugatuck Michigan to Portage Indiana next week pending lake conditions. Love the boat so far.

I don't have the answer to your question but I'm sure others more familiar with your boat and area will chime in soon.

Welcome to CSR.

Fuel consumption is based on many things. Last tuneup, condition of the hull, weight of all onboard, water conditions, wind, and speed. My 300WE went on a diet and shed a good bit of weight but a 300WE can come in at 9800lbs dry. Add fuel and water plus gear, all that adds up. At this time I burn approximately 13gal per hour. Higher if fully fueled and 40gal of water. Play it very safe. If you stop for food or just to get off the boat for a few, top your tanks off.

I've never lived north of VA so forgive me. Is Oct really the month to be moving a boat a long distance up on the Great Lakes?

If you are burning more than 150 gallons of fuel for a 75-mile run there is something seriously wrong with the boat. IMO

I don't have any choice. She has to be moved and since I just bought it then I have to move it in Oct. lol

Is that 13 gph perengine or total?
Thanks

Havent ran that boat

Thanks for the reply. I have not ran the boat other than the sea trial so I am looking for feedback on a ballpark estimate. I would hope that the tanks would't be dry when I arrived.

13gph per engine, twin 75gal tanks so about 5.5 hours of fuel. That's if the tanks are jammed full at 75gal each. Which is something I rarely do.

We both have Classic SeaRays and they are great boats but I have never trusted my gauges when it comes to fuel.

Jim where did you find that chart? It's a nice to have.

I had twin 454's in my 300 WE but really @ 25 kts your fuel burn should less than 25 gallons/hr

I think you'll be fine fuel wise. I went from Holland to Mich city with similar twin engines. Not sure how Portage is, but you may want to stop in Michigan city to top off.

Your bigger concern will be weather. As the lake gets narrow down there, it tends to get rougher. Enjoy your trip. Good luck.

Thanks. Holland to mc is about the same as saugatuck to portage. Been a south end boater for a while and it definitely gets bumpy

From what I have heard cruse @about 25mph or 3000rpm 75 miles =50 gallons give or take for strong winds or rough water plus 15%more fuel . But have not tested it in my 300we

Made the trip today. 88 miles. took around 3 hrs 45 min. Started out in 1 to 2 foot waves that built to 4 footers with some 6 footers. started with both tanks full and ended with a little less that 1/2 in each tank so I burned around 120 gallons of fuel. The rough water made her burn more fuel for sure.
