Forgive me if I'm not doing this right but I'm new to this posting as well as the boat. Houston experienced some record breaking cold weather and rain the past couple of weeks and every place that could leak....did! First night on boat spent pumping out 3" of water in the rope locker and about 2" of water in the aft cabin storage locker (in front of head). Day 2 the water pump just makes a pumping sound but no water. Finally found it but have no idea what's wrong. 3rd day started motors..they did! hopefully signifying things would get better.

Well first off, welcome aboard!! Sorry to hear about your bad start but I'm sure it will get better! The one thing I can suggest regarding the bilge pump, if its running but not pumping, the impeller has probably fallen of the shaft. What you're hearing is the motor turning the shaft, but no impeller to pump out the water!:smt021 It happened to mine once, and I was lucky enough to be able to put a touch of super glue inside the impeller, put it back on the shaft and vualaa!! If the impeller is broken, you may need to replace the whole bilge pump. But sometimes having the peace of mind knowing the pump will actually pump is worth the money spent on a new one! Again, welcome and post some pictures!!

I recommend not risking your boat and possibly life, get a new bilge pump and forego the superglue repair. Sorry Lucky's, this just doesn't sound like a good repair or gamble in the case 'hoping you're lucky'.

Fair enough! For the record, that was a novice repair on my first boat, not this one...but in a pinch it worked!! And as time went by it continued to work. That is why I said at the end that its often better to pay for the peace of mind...

I got ya. In a pinch and it gets you home great, but to suggest it as a permanent fix is where I had step in and say something. You don't want to leave safety equipment in a state of needed attention, repair or replacement.

I'm sorry, it's the dresh water pump. The bilge pumps are all working fine. Would the possible problem and fix (replace) be the same or is there a way to test.
