I got some good news today, my surveyor called and said he was doing the hull survey today. The broker doesn't have the ability to launch the boat on the day of the survey (Saturday the 29th) so my surveyor ran over today and did what he could before he leaves to drive north for the holiday. He scared me when he said he found two problems...They only were that it needed new zincs and one wheel was damaged. Luckily for me, he already got the broker to commit to fixing these things. It's so nice to have a surveyor that you know and trust. He summers at my marina and I guess he knows that he'll never hear the end of it if he misses something! Also did moisture readings and sounded the hull - everything was good.

If one wheel is bent, be sure to get both wheels redone at the same time. This is a great oppurtunity to ask the previous owner the "honet" answer as to what his max RPMs were. You could make the prop adjustments know if needed.

I know that you know and trust your surveyor, but it sure is a great way to learn your new boat if you are present during the hull and engine surveys.

Good Luck...

Believe me Dom, I would have loved to have been there. Problem is that it's 1700 miles away and I can't leave work at this time. We are driving down the day before the survey so we can climb all over it and be present for the rest of the surveys. If I left work, the whole place might fall apart then I wouldn't be able to pay for the boat...

tobnpr - The boat's in Stuart, FL and I'm up here in chilly Pennsylvania. The boat will stay there until sometime in March then will be trucked up here to my marina.

Hey Flyer

Good Luck ... but do make sure they pull the wheels out of the water ... thats wher eyou can perfrom a check on the cutlass bearings and the shaft whip, it could have been bent on the hit.

With the hull zinc wanting attnention, have all underwater metal inclucding thru hulls checked for signs of electrolysis.

Have the rudder logs checked for leaks as they could also require repacking and no time to do it better that at a haul out.

Happy Holidays

Thanks Chad - I talked to the dealer today and he said the wheels are at the prop shop now. My surveyor did all the normal stuff while it was out of the water so I'm sure he checked the stuff that you mentioned, I will question him when I talk to him next. The boat will be going back in Thursday or Friday, we should get there around noon on Friday. I told the dealer I would like to see it out of the water but I don't want to wait too long and not have it splashed in time for the in water/engine surveys because they are not working on Saturday.
