My name is Blake, and although we had boats or wave runners for as long as i can remember growing up, this is MY first boat.

I purchased a 1991 Sear Ray 170 LTD monday!:smt043

I then went to academy and dropped $275 on "boat stuff":smt089

We are taking her out for the first time Saturday, as long as the weather is good.

I live in the Clear Lake area, south east of Houston, Tx.

Glad to finally be a boat owner after wishing and dreaming for years!!

Blake,
Congrats on the new purchase and welcome to CSR!!Post up some pics when you get a chance!! Good luck with the new toy!

What do you mean if the weather's going to be good? I just googled Webster TX and it's suppose to be 80. You better go out or those still in shrink wrap and on blocks may have an issue. What's an LTD?

The LTD stands for limited, although im not really sure what that designates..

Its supposed to be warm, but a chance of afternoon showers, so I will be watching it!

here are some pics.
Day we bought it, sitting at academy about to buy all the "support equipment"

It has a very light oxidation layer on it, but i have been waxing and using an orbital and it seems to be taking it off.

This boat has a few wood accents that have turned grey with weathering, (can be seen in the last pic) any idea how to make them nice again?

Saw your question about the wood, which is teak. Go to any marine supply and get their teak cleaner, brightener and teak oil. This 3 step process will work wonders with not a lot of effort. I f possible, take the teak off the boat because this is a messy job. Good luck! Looks like a great boat. Had a friend who had a very similiar boat. Runs great with the 3 liter and really easy on gas.

That's a flashback. I had a '91 180BR(Bowrider) I bought new. That was my first boat. It was a great boat and it looks like your's is in great shape. Congrats

Thanks for the reply, i was going to attempt to sand with super fine paper and then seal. Glad i know what to do now!

Welcome board

Blake,
Another option on the teak is Cetol. The oil looks good for a week or 2 then starts to grey up again. If you clean and brighten the teak doing the first 2 steps, you can then let it dry, hit it with medium paper and put on 2 coats of Cetol. It seals the wood but lets it breathe so it won't crack like varnish. It will last a couple of years like that.

Congrats: Best of luck with the new toy. Hope you have many years of enjoyment boating....
