many of you mentioned using finesse 2 finishing material to get dock rub out, do you use the marine grade or the normal cheaper bottle that says its for cars?

You should be fine. For the "most" part, marine buffing/polishing/waxing/sealing products contain two things moreso than automotive:

1) More petroleum in it's chemical makeup (for cleaning and "wetting gelcoat"
2) Marine polishing/compounding/rubbing products are typically a little more aggressive than their automotive counterparts

So with that said, you are on the safe side, if results are little less than desirable, then go to the marine product.

Now for sealants and waxes, they are a little more specific for application, but not always. It seems more of the newer products are polymers that work well on both, in the old days there was more distinction (mostly petroleum)

I've always bought it at a boat store and was not aware of a car product. I've used it for years on new boats. Every year in the water my boats look just like the ones that are in the show room, even after many years. Finesse is a very fine rubbing compound and when used on a boat that is is is good condition preserves the origianal look. You need a good "wax" after Finesse to keep that wet look.
