Thanks ZZ13 for the info. Mark, boat has been good so far. I run at 20kts, you think I can get to hilton head from here? Also what do I need to know about the inlet when coming in? Thanks

I went the 145miles from Beaufort, SC (which is about 25 miles north of where you'd stop in Hilton Head) to Fernandina in about 6 hours. I was cruising 25mph offshore. You shouldn't have any issue getting to Hilton Head from where you are.

If coming into Tybee Roads, up the Savannah river, iI would go to Hilton Head, versus Savannah, if time was a factor. That will save 30-45 minutes.

Going south went hilton head to st Augustine. Longish day but not brutal. Thinking it was 7 hours.

Gaseadawg just confirmed my suspicion, harbor town would be faster for you than all the way up the savannah river.

My notes on hilton head approach from the south (Tybee) are on the boat in Florida, or I would type them in here.

Call the dock master at harbor town marina, she will give you specific markers to go to, then shore based land marks to follow across.

Great lady, very helpful.

Mark

Today I made it to Palm cove marina. Just south of Jacksonville.. Honking of outside tomorrow to savannah GA? Thoughts?

Why are you thinking about stopping in Svannah? Unless you wish to do some sites seeing for a day or two, I'd skip it. IMO, it's too much of a detour. Definitely go to Hilton Head, if you wish to be within the range of GA area.

St. John River inlet to Horbortown is about 110NM. A breaze in terms of fule usage for 480DB. I highly recommend staying in Horbor Town Marina.

Based on what I see for tomorrow's forecast, if you're strictly on a delivery trip, then I'd just head to Charleston.

Was just looking at charts, rough view. Outer marker at Jacksonville to outer marker at tybee looks like 100nm.

Figure an hour out to the marker in Jacksonville, 5 hour run, your at Tybee marker after 6 hours. If you want to pull in, another 30-45 to get in.

If you want to keep running, another 60 or so nm you are at the entrance to charleston. It is a bit of a hike into city marina at charleston but a great place to stay.

Matt,

Once again, you're getting good advice.

Here's what I see:

Tuesday
West winds 5 to 10 knots becoming south 10 knots in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Inland waters mostly smooth. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Unless you want to see SAV, I'd go to Hilton Head. I've done Thunderbolt, Savannah, and Harbor Town. Harbor Town is nice and the fastest to get back offshore, if you are so inclined. If the weather is bad the following day for an outside passage, the ICW is good from there. Did the ICW up to Charleston, which by the way, is a good stop either way.

Have fun

Thanks guys. We are getting ready to motor out now. I will update this afternoon/evening

Went out Jacksonville this morning and motored for about 1-2hours, and then hit the wall. FOG. We continued for 2 hours at slow speed and came back to ICW at St. Simon(great inlet). Went through Hells Gate at 1/2 rising tide and only stirred up very little. Keeping to the inside of Red can "90". Ended The day at isle of Hope.

Isle of Hope is a great place. Staying on the ICW, you will pass my marina in Thunderbolt. We are at Savannah Bend Marina, the local SeaRay dealer. I will actually be pulling out for a trip to Charleston Friday. Keep us posted.

Best laid plans and advice from the Internet... Right smack into fog.

At least you have some northward progress.

Keep us posted.

Today the plan is to go from IOH to Charleston staying on the inside. I almost forgot to add that not only did we see fog and skinny water yesterday, but also add an alligator. We went by too fast for a picture, but it was still nice to see it.

You'll be passing right by my marina at ICW mile marker 539 in South Carolina (Port Royal). I'll look for you.

ZZ13. We might have passed by your marker today. We are now north of charleston at Isle of Palms. A lot of puckering today running at low tides.
Tomorrow the game plan is going to Myrtle Beach.
