I think it looks worse than it really is. Fiberglass is flexible depending on the type of layup.

Repair would generally consist of -

1. Strip rub rail off
2. Grind gelcoat in areas that are cracked and areas where any loose fibers reside
3. Repair glass if necessary
4. Gelcoat to match
5. Wash and wax

Done.

Boat Town Fiberglass did some work on my non-skid a few years back. That was on my Scout. It had cracked where the console attached to the deck. Awesome work! (cross hatch pattern)

The silver lining in this accident is to location of the damage. A competent tech would find this an easy job. White gel coat is much easier to match than colored and the fade is not very noticeable. Also, your eye will not be drawn to this location once the repair is completed. Not cheap, however. That would probably cost somewhere north of 3,000 in our market. Good luck finding a qualified repair person.

Sbw1 you are absolutely correct on optimal location on my part not an eye catching location by any means..Myself and the previous owner were always on top of cleanliness and regular waxing so fade should not be all to bad for a 96..Douglee you make this sound like a easier job and I hope you are correct..Maky a other guy in passing g just this morning mentioned boat town..thank you..and Blueone lol the color is a dead give away and I'm really hoping my insurance will foot the bill on this one or atleast help on this.. thanks guys

I would expect insurance to cover this minus the deductible, you then can use the best and not worry about cost within reason as your cost is the deductible.

If he has a 1% deductible, I would expect the repair to cost less than his deductible.

I would expect his deductible to be $1000, and was agreeing with your $3000 estimate. It is a 96 330 DA. Saw a similar one sell for under $30k this summer.

Ah....missed the model. Thought it was a newer 42 Dancer. Thanks for pointing that out.
