When will it end?... Check out the two guys casually walking in the background. Weather channel is defending the reporter but looks a bit suspect.

Well, NBC does own them. I also watched a weather girl on the weather channel talking about the hurricane and she sounded like she was auditioning for for a high school drama. It was pathetic, just to stir fear.

That's funny. Not only that but the wind is blowing to his back but he is leaning in the other direction. If you were to lean into the wind you would be leaning the other way to brace yourself.

Newscasters are very sensitive people (read actors who read cue cards and teleprompters)....the people casually walking in the background clearly were far less sensitive....... I'm sure the Reporter's feelings were hurt when the video went viral.

I have family in North Carolina so I have been watching lots of weather news the last few days. After a half hour or so of the Weather channel, as a 54 year old man who has seen a thing or two, I start to realize a lot of the drama is fabricated. They are good at it and know exactly what they are doing but will never admit it. Unfortunately most of the sheeple get the 30 second clip and take it as gospel.

This is funny.

Last night on cnn, don lemon was broadcasting from myrtle beach.

Was trying to build drama, kept talking about the upcoming high tide and the wind blowing on shore making an epic biblical event.

The graphic on the lower left of the screen showed the winds blowing off shore....

The wind speeds (constant and gusts) were showing in the upper left corner of that screen. Steady winds at 29, gusts up to 40 something.

Hell, that's just getting to be good boating weather.

That’s just a little more than a summer afternoon around here.

News is about ratings these days and weather events like hurricanes get the eyeballs on the news. They take advantage of this to capitalize on the misfortunes of others - it is a shame. There is no longer such news as just reporting the facts, there is always a trailing opinion.

We are here is Wilmington NC area. I think that video was around a couple of years ago. We are staying at a Hilton in Wilmington and the Weather Channel and Siedel are here.

Much of the wind speed information on a hurricane comes from hurricane hunter aircraft that naturally fly relatively high above the ocean or land. I use this database to monitor the surface windspeeds. https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/

Of course, the water from storm surge and flooding is most often more damaging than the winds.

Now called Hotel Ballast? I've seen Water street flood from a moderate afternoon shower! How high is the river?
