Thank you for your input. I was able to walk aboard a 240 a couple of weekends ago and the cockpit deck area seemed small as far as seating goes. We regularly boat with 8 people. 4 Adults and 4 kids under the age of 9. The big issue with the pontoon boat is water over the front in a lot of chop. The side to side rocking is not a huge concern, but feeling overwhelmed in chop may send my wife to an early grave. It stresses her out quite a lot to the point that she doesnt like going. I would go even bigger than a 260 if they made a longer boat with an 8'6" beam. It is crucial that we are able to trailer the boat since we have 4-5 really awesome lakes within about an hour and a half of us.
I am not sure which 240 Sundeck you looked at but if was a current one (2014) then they are indeed smaller in the cockpit than the older version. Take a look at the earlier 240SD (Sundeck) made from 2000-2009. They have a seating capacity of 12 people along with a nice size head and we had 12 people on our ours many many times.
Trust me when I tell you this, with 4 adults and 4 kids you will all be more comfortable on the 240SD. The cockpit of a 260DA is quite a bit more cramped by comparison. And you won't have to worry about taking water over the bow either on the 240 Sundeck.
The Sundancer is better if you are looking to overnight or if you want to retreat to an air-conditioned cabin to get away from the heat or provide a diversion place for the youngsters. I only mention all of this because when we moved to a Sundancer, we had to totally change our strategy of how many folks we could take out at one time. With a Sundeck, the kids can bring their friends and it is also much easier to tube or wake board behind the Sundeck than the Sundancer.
Hope this helps.
