Thanks, pmvdb395da you have been a great help. hopefully my plan will all come together ..

This is a follow up on my davit project,

Well so far i have fabricated the brackets that slide into the weaver quik kit , so i can remove them completely. made out of
3/16" stainless flatstock and 1"x1" tube. i inflated the dink and traced the bottom with cardboard and transferred that to plywood, after some small adjustments i will clamp it to 1" poly pro which is similar to starboard and cheaper(actually has better qualities) I'm told. I'll cut the plastic with a flush router bit and 1/2 round bit to smooth all the edges.thanks to the guys on the site i have gotten this far i would love your questions and feedback so far. Thanks

just did a test fit for my davits, since then i made a new bracket [engine side] extended the forward section by 11"
the starboard is now sandwiched between stainless steel and has a quick lock to hold the braket . the dinghy is a 8' and a 5hp motor. i will send the new pics later.

temasearay,

What material did you use for the ramps?

i used 3/4 starboard in a 24"/52" sheet, i made the hindge and the side plates out of 316 marine grade stainless steel. i also added a weaver quick release bracket to the forward section of the bracket, so when i pull the dinghy up and push down the bracket will lock onto the swim platform.the reason is the weight of the engine when trying to hold the dinghy and engine in place to secure the tie straps. i will send the other pics later.

Where did you get the starboard in a 24"/52" sheet? I've looked at my local WM and didn't see it. Did you have a local shop make the hinges, what did they charge?

I just don't like the trip hazard on the swimstep once the dink is off. I'd like to design something that mounts through the lip of the swimstep and can fasten flush through the top of the swimstep. The arms of the davits like you guys have made them can be clicked into the base but all the mounting hardware would be flush.

I'll make a rudimentary drawing when I get to work and post what I'm thinking.

So here's my crappy drawing.
Anyway the idea would be so that your fastening hardware is flush on the swimstep and your shaped bases can be mounted through a tube through the lip of the swimstep that set on the top of your swimstep while in use. Pull them out and stow them when you're swimming off the swimstep.

The one thing I will give Rinker credit for - is the recessed spot in their swim platforms for brackets for davits.

I really don't like anything showing on the top of my swim deck period. As a result, I've not had any davits since getting my current boat. This most recent post has me thinking.:wow:

Cars have "hidden hitch" trailer hitches that have "receivers" that barely poke out from underneath the bumper. I'm thinking that a similar "hitch" should be easily designed to attach under the swim platform using the decks support structure. The receiver (square tube) would be placed back a few inches so it wouldn't be easily seen, plus it would take away the stubbed toe thing. :smt001

The actual davits would be mounted on a curved "trailer hitch" type item that would slide into the receiver just under the edge of the swim deck and be secured with a "pin" (just like the trailer hitch ball).

Think, think, think...:smt101

Ok, I'm not a CAD expert (or even amateur) but this is what I came up with in photoshop. You may need to make a large plate to help the swim plateform spread the weight out and not crack anything on top.

Keep in mind all size are not to scale

You guys should have applied for a patent on this idea before publishing it here...

Well, you can add another happy "Dom's Davits" user to the group. I just finished fabricating and installing a set for my 36 SeaRay. I had to use a 4 inch extension to the arms and I used 1" plastic for the cradles. Mounted with the Weaver Recievers. My dink is a 10'4" with a 9.9 Suzuki on it so the pull up takes 2 people... will have to devise a pully system for solo use
anyway, THANKS Dom!
