i used 3/4 starboard in a 24"/52" sheet, i made the hindge and the side plates out of 316 marine grade stainless steel. i also added a weaver quick release bracket to the forward section of the bracket, so when i pull the dinghy up and push down the bracket will lock onto the swim platform.the reason is the weight of the engine when trying to hold the dinghy and engine in place to secure the tie straps. i will send the other pics later.
I really don't like anything showing on the top of my swim deck period. As a result, I've not had any davits since getting my current boat. This most recent post has me thinking.:wow:
Cars have "hidden hitch" trailer hitches that have "receivers" that barely poke out from underneath the bumper. I'm thinking that a similar "hitch" should be easily designed to attach under the swim platform using the decks support structure. The receiver (square tube) would be placed back a few inches so it wouldn't be easily seen, plus it would take away the stubbed toe thing. :smt001
The actual davits would be mounted on a curved "trailer hitch" type item that would slide into the receiver just under the edge of the swim deck and be secured with a "pin" (just like the trailer hitch ball).
Think, think, think...:smt101
You guys should have applied for a patent on this idea before publishing it here...
Well, you can add another happy "Dom's Davits" user to the group. I just finished fabricating and installing a set for my 36 SeaRay. I had to use a 4 inch extension to the arms and I used 1" plastic for the cradles. Mounted with the Weaver Recievers....
