I've heard this for the last 3 or 4 years but now it's official. Went by yesterday and they had a couple "keep out" bouys blocking the entrance. I was never a big fan of F-cove but I don't agree with them closing it either. Another case of a few bad apples spoiling it for everyone.

F cove was never open it was just there. The Federal fish and wildlife control it and fine is up to $5000.00 and 6 month in jail if you go in there and it wont be reopened. The state police will enforce it.

Chaulk up another victory for the treehuggers!
Read about it HERE

Here's the CLASSIC line from this article, and I quote from the mouth of the Grand Poobah of treehuggers...

"Any activity that we permit there has to be tied to the needs and requirements of wildlife before they can be tied to what we need to do to recreate,"

The following is a quote from someone who has been to F-cove on our boat many years ago. It is his reaction to this mindset, not just what happened to F-cove.

"The enviro-freaks really believe that man is a plague on the world and it would be better off if we were extinct, or at least incapable of interacting with it other than with our eyes. They are truly sick!"

I'm quite concerned that all the "inhabitants" of F-cove, now homeless on Sat and Sun from the hours of 10 am to 4pm, will be unleashed on the Bay, making it more treacherous than it already is!

I think the "Last Straw" was that the Cast from Joisey Shore showed up there last Summer!!! :smt021

The minority environmentalist waco terrorist run this country! It is happening coast to coast as far north as Alaska. Now they have the EPA to back them up! In Alaska we have been fight federal intrusion for years. Welcome to the fight NJ!

The environmentalists almost got the state to shut down anchoring at Governors Cur (the Secret Place) and Tices Shoal. They argued, unsuccessfully, that boaters were damaging the shore line and all anchoring should be banned. The good new is that the state will begin stronger enforcement of the no wake rules at Tices and be patrolling the areas more frequently for drunks and speeders. As is usually the case, the few almost screwed it up for the many and the environmentalist that do not boat almost got their way again.

The state is not putting in all the slow speed barels in bay this year. Last year had 750 this year none by bridges and all areas where you know you must go slow big time ticket trap they are setting up.

You have a source for that info? Sounds bogus and unbelievable.

Go to Brick Patch and click on news f cove artical and removal of slow speed boys.

I thought those bouys were placed seasonally?
I thought they usually go in the water at the end of May, and are pulled in late October?

The ones south of the Mantaloking Bridge were particularly annoying since they are basically Unlit Nav hazards in the Channel. (I see them much better in daylight. . . )

.. .

Edit: Found the article: http://brick.patch.com/articles/sta...o-wake-buoys-in-local-waterways#photo-9904530

The way I read it: It does sound like a revenue generation scheme.

BTW: Although I run a fairly by the books boat, I have been a bit peeved at the huge police presence at Tices. Sure. . there are a few bad apples; but it definately seems like it's a police hangout and I have several times seen them going boat to boat with random inspections. Not that there is anything wrong with that. . ... . .but I am not a fan of random inspections for shucks and grins.

I welcome the police at Tices...the more the merrier, as long as they keep all the morons that cruise through creating a wake or the jet ski showoff cutting water doughnuts in check. I'm doing nothing wrong and if they want to check my boat...have at it.

Thanks for the link. Interesting that we all managed to survive prior to 1988 with only 35 of these buoys! Once again, the government seems to think we have to save us from ourselves. I'm actually thrilled to see they are looking for ways to cut costs for a change!

The tricky part will be down along LBI. There are a couple of NO-WAKES that were marked and I always forget where they are. I did put them into my GPS but if not, they'd probably bust me down there.

I have come to the conclusion that this "F-Cove" is some sort of Jersey thing.

I was in an F-Cove Saturday night, but, it wasn't in Jersey.

F-cove was a way of life for some. They have their own website...
FCOVE

Great site for people who are interested in evolution of "sprawl"... historicaerials.com

In 1963, there was no F cove or T cove.
In 1970 T cove appears, still no F cove.
By 1972, both T and F are there in all their glory, dug out of basically nothing...then left, never to be developed. I would love to know what the enviro-kooks were spewing back in the early 70s to get these developments to stop. From after WWII up through the 1960s, all these "lagoons" were dug out of marshes or tiny little creeks, and houses and marinas popped up like weeds. Then it all stopped rather abruptly.

If anyone knows the story, please share it.

Sorry - bored at work and this stuff fascinates me. Historicaerials has added topographic maps dating back to the early 1900s There was a railroad that made the crossing from Ocean Gate/Good Luck point to Seaside Park. The 1948 map doesn't show it so it was disassembled sometime after the war.

I can trace the Mantoloking Bridge back as far as 1931. The Rt 37 Bridge was built sometime btwn 1924 and 1941.

As early as 1888, there was a railroad (The Philadelphia & Beach Haven Line) crossing from Manahawkin to LBI, where the bridge is now (Dorland J Henderson Bridge Bridge appears in the 1941 map). The railroad went all the way up to Barnegat Light and all the way down to just south of Beach Haven. Conflicting stories I've found - some say the rail bridge was destroyed in 1935 and soon after came the auto bridge. Others say the car bridge was built and co-existed with the rail bridge until 1935, and was replaced by the concrete causeway in 1950.

Once again, road supplants rail.

Fcove was dug in 1967 by a developer who was trying to beat dead line he did it with out permits and was shut down by Cafria rules be fore DEP they spanked him and he left. When i was a kid we would watch the guy running the drag line he would chase us all the time. There is another lagon 200 feet north of Fcove we got in there with a flat bottom row boat at high tide it is 600 feet long and 150 short of bay.

As far as F cove is concerned for me, it was shut down several years ago by the Jelly Fish. It is a cesspool and not at place to anchor, not to mention the shenanigans that young children should not see. My fear is the Yahoos that went there will show up our spots. The good news is Tices and the secret spots can't be easily blocked...

I haven't been in F-Cove since 2006/2007. Don't miss it at all for all the reason already mentioned. Tices is the next spot that gets spoiled rapidly. As Frank said, I also don't mind police presents in there, since we're not doing anything stupid.
