PM me the link would you. I think one of the Monitors blanked it out.
Pm me the link too please.
I'm not sure yet.
Yes, they all refund when bad weather keeps you from getting to the marina.
I read Pascal's post on the other forum, very similar to the trip we have planned. Great pictures. (Google "January Exuma trip 134534" and you'll find it)
Ken - you should consider bringing your wave runner. it would be a riot out there.
One place he mentioned that we can't miss is Big Majors. A cay just north of Staniel and home of the swimming pigs. I figure we'll visit there while we're at Sampson or Staniel.
For those who found the link to the post/pics due to the "*******", substitute the ******* with "********".
Edited post -- never mind it just did it to my post too. That word must be coded to not display on this forum.
If Trit21 and JC3 go with us, we'll have 9 boats going!!!!
I would be in on this trip if I was not already going to Europe during the same time... it looks like you guys are planning an "epic" experience! I look forward to this thread continuing to develop!
Wow, great link (Google "January Exuma trip 134534" and you'll find it). That gets me in the mood.
Have you charted a route to go to Nassau? North, through the cut south of Bimini? Are you starting from Boca?
The Great Bank is new to me and I need to figure it out.
here are 2 of the routes for crossing the bank north of Bimini..... Both routes start at Boca Inlet.
Explorer Charts way points for crossing the bank north of Bimini are beginning 25 48.20N 79 15.50W and drawing a straight line to Mackie Shoal 25 41.00N 78 39.00W. From there the next waypoint is 25 28.20N 78 09.60W at beginning of NW Channel. Then you're off the bank and it's 118 degrees to Nassau or 108degrees to Chub Cay. THis is most likely the route I'll be taking.
Thanks Randy and Diversion,
I don't feel like buying charts and SW for my PC. Have you found a source for Bahamas charts you can download and then read with a PC plotter SW like SeaClear? I'm trying to figure a cheap PC chartplotter solution I can use for planning only while I'm watching ice dancing or some such non-sense.
nRoute has morphed to Mobile and so on.
Hi Tom - the only thing I've come across is not really a chart but it's pretty cool. I don't know if it would work with a gps unit or not.
the neat thing about this program is that you can adjust the transparency of the satellite overlay.
By the way, the waypoints that Diversion listed in his post is the lower route shown on my post.
Thanks Randy. That's a huge help and something I can play around with when I'm in a meeting and supposed to be paying attention.
I looked at Seaclear (didn't download it) and it looked pretty good. Does it not work well?
I downloaded it but I haven't broken the code on where to get the source charts. I downloaded some charts but the app couldn't "see" them. It's looks really good for freeware. Written by a brainiac for a trip he was doing when he couldn't find what he wanted off the shelf.
Not sure which route I'll take this time. It will depend on whether we go straight to Chub or Nassau vs spend a night in Bimini.
The route south of Bimini goes in between Gun & Cat Cay and onto the NW Channel light. I'd don't have waypoints handy right now, but can post them as the trip draws near if you end up going that way. I leave from the Hillsboro Inlet.
we should know today if Sampson has availability or not. we need to refine our dates so reservations can be made, they can always be changed later but with 7-9 boats going, i think we should get on the books.
please take a look at the following dates -for the sake of discussion, I have us staying 1 night in each location. we can change that (please make suggestions regarding this issue)
7/5; leave Nassau for Sail Rocks
7/6; leave Sail Rocks for Warderick Wells
7/7; leave Warderick for Compass
7/8; leave Compass for Sampson
7/9; leave Sampson for Green
7/10; leave Green for Nassau
as you can see, 1 night in each location get's us a 6 night cruise (not including getting to Nassau and back). a couple of things to keep in mind regarding staying more than 1 night at these locations.....
3 of the 5 locations are anchorages. that means +/- 72 hours of use on the hook or about 72 gallons of boat juice for the gennys. If we're going to stay more than 1 night somewhere, maybe it should be at a marina?
I think the big issue is gonna be the gassers. They should be OK from Nassau to Sampson. Their problem is gonna be from Sampson to Green to Nassau. So I guess for them Green,s gonna be at best a one niter.
I think we ought to lock in 7/8 for Sampson. We could then adjust the trip as necessary. That way we would at least have a Marina locked in half way through the trip.
Just my 99 cents.
Thanks for the input Jack. There is gas (and diesel) available between Sail Rocks and Warderick at a place called Highborne Cay. Then again at Staniel or Sampson. Another option would be for the gassers to go back to Sampson after Green so they could gas up and return the way we came.
Another 99 cents.
