Will pick up my new 205 sport tomorrow....or Friday... Should I buy the extended warranty? Passport Premiere or just the one offered by Mercruiser? Your thoughts please? Insurance suggestions also appreciated....dealer and auto insurance company both recommend Progressive....but I thought I saw something about Sea Ray having another company?

Any thoughts you can provide will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Check out NBOA. My brother is using them and dealing w/ a fire claim. They are working well with him on his problem. Great rates too.

Marine insurance has its own set of rules and sometimes an insurer that gives you the best price will not be the best when it comes to a claim. Boat US is very good. If you decide to go with another insurer, being a member of Boat US is still worth it as their consumer affairs divsion can help you along with any issues you may have during the claims process with another insurer. Great towing service as well. I had an warrranty issue with Mercury and as soon as I ask Boat US to assist me, the issue was solved.

On the extended warranty, you need to look at what's covered and whats' not, the deductible, cost of policy ect. I have the passport premier and have made a claim and did not have any issues. Thay paid straigh away. I think Merc only covers engine/drive train but Passport Premier depending on which package you purchase covers more, such as gauges, electronic etc.

Good luck & Congrats on your new boat. :smt038

Don't know where you're boating, but one thing to check on the insurance is the lay-up period. That's essentially the winter storage period. Make sure it matches your needs. Also there are ACV (actual cash value) and stated value policies. The stated value would pay the stated amount of the policy in case of loss (usually full replacement value) where the ACV is the depreciated amount.

Good luck with your new boat.

Stay away from Pass Port. Go with the Mercruiser Warranty. Buy direct from Mercruiser and save. You can do a serach on this info, it's been talked about a lot.

I agree with STIHL. I have had the Mercruiser waranty on all three of my Sea Rays and it paid for itself (on the first two at least). Plus it's an excellent sales tool if you decide to sell your boat because the warranty is transferrable to the next owner. Also don't be bashfull about asking your dealer to discount his price on the warranty.

Another vote for both NBOA and the Mercruiser warranty.

Thanks to all who responded...your sage advice has been valuable...sure is great to have fellow owners in your corner. Good boating to all. Thanks again for taking the time to advise me.
