I'd really like to see that one! Send me a PM when you get the pictures up so I can see it! I am picturing something really redneck.....

Yeah, I don't see adding only 14 inches for almost $2k right now. The redneck approach has my vote. I wanna see pics! lol

Are you kiddin' me? :wow:

Why not get a canbote? That handyman platform would look right at home.

Decking from Lowe's....on a Sea Ray :smt089 Jeez....

I think I will send this one to Jeff Foxworthy

You might be a redneck if....you put a swim platform made of 2x4s on your fiberglass Sea Ray

Actually I was thinking of a nice pine or cedar extension to my swim platform. Maybe brass hardware so there would be no corrosion issues. Followed with some spindle mounted railings....

The point I was making is that $2k for 14 inches is unreasonable. I like the size of my platform......

My Formula had a teak platform. Synthetic would have been great. I would like to see this. I am not too happy with the total lack of wood on Saint Max.

Why didn't you say you were going to use some spindles. Now you're talking....

You are right. If you are only adding a 14" swim platform for $2k....that is pricey. But if you are adding 14" to the existing platform is really a lot. Go to the link below
http://swimplatforms.contentpros.ne...ay/SeaRay290Sundancer/tabid/2718/Default.aspx

This shows what it would look like. The molded in step on the 290 is not very big. Adding 14" would add a lot and make a difference. Especially if it was custom designed and built to match the boat.

I paid a lot more that $2k to add 17" to my '89 340da. My original platform was only 22" deep. Pretty small to do anything, even stand. My new platform is 39" deep. Big enough to put a deck chair on.

I had a teak platform on my '85 23" Cobalt and it was a ton of work to keep looking great. But I would not have changed the teak to Trex decking to get out of some work.

But....to each his own

Yeah, the Factory add-on platform on my 2000 290AJ is more then big enough. I actually would like a 14 inch addition, but could just not justify the costs. Add that to the fact that the swim platform really gets in the water in the deceleration phase, the extra amount may be problematic.

If I had a factory small built in platform like the older boats, I could justify the cost easily.

The 290 in the pics is very similar to the platform I have from the factory. That size is perfect.

But the idea of a cedar deck and spindle railings is almost over whelming!!

I had a solid Teak platform that was 36 inches deep X 12 feet wide on my 1963 Chris Craft Roamer. That was a MF to keep up!!!!

Not sure I'd mount something like this to my boat...but do have to admit it doesn't look as bad as I first thought it would.

And of course - if you really want a deck instead of a platform - there is always this page:

When I posted about the platform I was thinking more along the lines of replacing a damaged platform. It mounts as does the oem It fits into the cutout on the back of the boat. it don't fit all 290's just the 1998 to 2001 Sundancer. I will post pics as soon as I can. Thanks Mike Farmer

if you can waste 2000.00 on a platform extension, then maybe you need to visit a doctor and have your head examined.I will post pics of my synthetic platform, one that I have received MANY MANY compliments on.As for the REDNECK.....we all could probally relate to being a redneck at some point or time. But if you spend thousands on a 16 inch platform extension,...........REDNECK OR DUMB A@# you make the call....

Wesley, I agree. But those didn't come from Lowe's. :smt101

I have seen some of our members do some pretty impressive wood work. That said I am not sure where they got the wood from but I am sure the results look alot more expensive than it cost to do.

To avoid any other confusion on this subject here is a pic of the stock platform. the 14 in is added between the ladder opening and the boat. I'm sure the platforms that bolt on to a boat with a flat transom can be built at home and look and perform perfectly. This is not the case however with this one It's going to look just like the one in the pic but longer and fit to the back of the boat as Sea Ray sent it out the door.1998 to 2001 290 Sun dancer only.

Rocky or Sabrina, (which ever one you are)

You seem to be a bit sensitve about this topic. First off, no one called you a Redneck. I believe the coment was, "....I am picturing something really redneck." Also, no one called you a dumb ass or insinuated that you suffered from some sort of mental disability. In re-reading the thread, including my comments, I believe the insinuation was that we are having a difficult time picturing a swim platform built with off the shelf material from Lowe's.

I shop at Lowes....but not for my boat. I also build a lot of furniture and have remodeled several homes and consider myself pretty handy and creative. But never in my wildest dreams did I ever consider building a swim platform for any of my boats with old used pallets.

I also understand that $2000 is probably a lot of money for some, especially during our current economic crisis. Replacing the platform on my boat was something that I made a priority and I chose to spend the money and I actually spent considerably more for my platform and the installation than 2 grand. But I have the money and I feel I have gotten more than my money's worth in satisfaction and the safety aspect of having the bigger platform. And by the way, I'm willing to bet a 12-pack that I get more favorable comments on my platform than you do on yours.

I don't know you and you may be a master craftsman and have the ability to build a beautiful platform from home center parts. But I doubt it. I'm sure you did the best you could with what you had and beauty is definately in the eye of the beholder.

No one called you names or made this personal. We were however, having some fun at your expense. That happens on this site and occasionally some loser takes it personal. You have a 1983 24' boat that you maybe paid what....$5000 for? Great for you. But do you think I am a dumbass for paying over $50K for my boat or that some of the other guys on this forum are mentally unstable if they paid $300K for theirs?

Get over yourself, don't take things so personal and stop calling people names. If that's not an option maybe you should refrain from posting comments and just read.
