Experimenting with new floor covering

Padding under? No glue? How'd it do with temperature and humidity expansions? Do you find it shifts under rough seas? Thanks! P.S. have a ton of experience doing installs for houses, but not in boats. Looking for hardwoods in new boat, but might just save at signing and do it myself.

No padding, although I suppose you could do something thin. The only affect of temperature is the seams between each piece can open and close slightly, but I mean slightly. You are supposed to leave 1/8" around the edges where you would come into contact with a vertical wall. I do keep the cabin fairly controlled year round, but there have been days it's gotten to 120 degrees if the A/Cs quit. It's in Florida year round, so I can't speak for extreme cold.
Absolutely not glued down. No shifting at all. Way too heavy to even move the 1/8" when fully assembled. This is NOT engineered wood. Go to Home Depot and grab some samples of Allure. I use the oak version. I have the maple cabin.

So you are prett confident that it is ok with water have a 55 Sedan bridge that needs a new floor

I installed the allure dark wood in mine last spring. I dint pay mind to wet bathing suits in the cabin. Floor has gone through lots of traffic, hot, cold, lots of kids lots of water just about anything you can throw at it and it still looks great. No swelling no scratches no nothing. I'm very happy
