Looking for an Express Cruiser
Engines
None
Hello All,
I am looking at purchasing a 2005 260 Sundancer. It’s has 300 hours on the Mercruiser 350 MPI Horizon motor and has been used in salt water, fresh water and stored on a trailer.
Boat is in good condition overall.
When I purchase I am going to remove and inspect the exhaust risers. If they need replacement is there a preferred vendor to purchase original Mercruiser parts from? I will only install OEM, or is it best to purchase from Mercruiser directly?
Thanks for any advise in advance.

No reason to buy direct from merc. Plenty of online OEM suppliers with better prices.

I have 8.1s 496. Purchase most OEM parts online.

PS: heat and cooling exchangers should be checked too. Great replacements and half price from Mr. COOL exchanges.

Good luck

Thanks LG111. If it is raw water cooled will it have heat exchangers?
Thanks again

NuWave Marine had the best OEM prices when I changed mine in August and free shipping.

Don't mean to be harsh bit I would never buy a boat the has been in salt water unless it has fresh water cooling.

make sure you get a GOOD survey. I thought mine was good but had overheading issues shortly after receiving...now looking at full replacement after a lot of work.

IMHO for exhaust and risers go aftermarket and save, you will replace the same time interval. look up marineengineparts on ebay. i got a great deal on Barr Marine. otherwise i am a firm believer in OEM

So I looked at the boat today and it has been in fresh water only. It is in excellent shape considering it is 13 years old. Going to go out on it Monday (on a local lake) with a mechanical surveyor for a run up, compression test, tempature readings of headers, etc. All systems on board the boat work. It is a repo and was bought at auction a month ago.

Yes..... however not sure how your engine is set up. There are generally up to 3, 4 or 5 heat exchangers on an engine.
* Raw water antifreeze cooler for the block. Sounds like that one is a no for you.
* Oil cooler via raw water
* Power steering cooler via raw water, generally with outdrives.
* v drive cooler via raw water. Shaft driven
* fuel pump cooler via raw water. If it's a merc, then I'd say you have one.

You may only have one which likely is the oil cooler should be checked or just replaced. Those are cheap around $150. Mr. Cooler carry a nearly all cooler needs and makes.
