Cast iron block w 4-bolt mains
I've had two impeller fails on an alpha one sterndrive installed on my previous boat. Both were well away from the dock and both were on impellers less than 2 years old.
I had one impeller fail on Just Ducky, which was the generator's impeller. It failed 20 minutes after leaving the dock. I knew right away that I had an impeller problem without looking at the exhaust port or waiting for the indicator on the Systems Monitor. I heard it, just as Frank and Gary said.
