the original exhaust flappers have been discontinued and the newly designed ones dont fit properly no matter how I try. they are not operating properly ,and causing a overheating problem at low rpms any ideas how I can solve this problem the old flappers sre no longer available

Well some info on you year, make, model, engine, etc. would help a lot. I replaced mine a few months back and the new design made it a simple job. Here is a pic of the new design I installed.

you could always cap the exhaust off and run through hull exhaust but the kit I looked at was like $900.00 very costly which would be fine for my boat. It might not be for you

I looked into running through hull exhaust on my boat simply to do away with the shutters and was told I still have to pull the motor, what exactly is the process of installing new shutters?

remove boots between elbows and y pipe...take out old shutters...or what is left of them....clean up inside y pipe....push new style in to top of y pipe....reinstall boots.

for some reason y pipe is slightly smaller diameter to accomadate new flappers but just slightly and holes where they snap in are slightly lower

I purchased my shutters from a marine service dept. parts counter. I provided engine serial number and mine fit. Call a reputable marine service dept. and ask if they come in different sizes. As you can see by my signature I have a bigger engine.

I agree with you but I have actually been to 2 different reputable dealers and have bought a couple of different sets I can see your flappers are bigger but of the same design and actually I brought it to the marina and he said he modified a set to fit but I still have the same problem maybe worse and paid 400.00 for nothing I believe the design is a good idea I just dont understand why the y pipe is to narrow on my boat. it worked perfectly with old design its only off by small amount

$400 ? ....mine were less than a hundred.

Post up some pics of old flappers, new ones, and y pipe. I may be able to help. I looked at a ton of those looking for mine. $400 is crazy. Quint 4 is right on with the cost and the way to get them. I also replaced bushings and pins with the flappers. I sanded the ends of the bushings a bit for smooth operation, a little overkill. What was left of mine had a rubber stainless steel plate with the part # stamped on it. Just had to clean it off to see it. Note: that you can put them in wrong. Good luck.

when I brought it in I wasnt sure what the problem was ,told him it overheated at idle but did mention the exhaust flappers were tight .he said that wasnt the problem and spent hours going over other things before determining it was this he took them out and it runs fine I have a solution but I dont know if I can make it work what I need are a set of the old style flappers any ideas

I do have one old flapper its in bad shape but the boat is 12 miles away and I wont have it until friday at which point I will post pics by the way how do you post pics

Get a free photo bucket account. Load your pics. Run your mouse over the pic, you will get a drop down, you copy the img code and paste it on csr one pic at a time. Size med or large seems to work. I'm kind of new at the photo stuff so someone may have better info.
