exhaust elbow melting the table storage bracket.

capz, your picture looks like the bracket is also touching the table bracket. What is the pad made of that is between the bracket and the elbow? Funny you say I have a 2000. I believe my boat is a 2000 but I was looking through some paperwork yesterday and found '99 written on it. The paperwork seemed to be a dealer predelivery checklist. Can you tell the year by the HIN? The last 2 numbers of my HIN are 00 so I assumed that indicates 2000. Regardless, I do not have an insulator between the elbow and the bracket. My thought was to remove the bracket and cut out the sections just above both of the elbows so there will be some space above the elbow. Thanks for the pictures. Are your motor mounts run up as far as mine? John

Last two numbers should be year - mine are "99". I am chasing a small water leak so later this week when I go back to the boat, I will get you dimensions for comparison.

You know it's funny my serial also begins with Sera and ends 00, but the manual that came with it it has '99' on it :huh:. The 'a' indicates both our boats came from the Arizona plant so I don't know why you wouldn't have those insulators. They're made out of a spongy foam. On the surface there's a clear film with grid lines.
As for the mounts I'll take a look. I don't think that's your problem though. How could they design a boat with adjustable motor mounts that can't be adjusted up?
I wouldn't cut away bracket material. Check the parts manual under bilge, "not shown" section. Part #209684 Tape,foam sgl face black vinyl. That could be it. Looks like 3M makes it. See here http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/1377017-tape-sgl-coated-foam-1-4-x-36yd-4116-1-4-x36yd.html
In the '01' manual there's part #130690 in the same section. It shows it as a neoprene 2'' piece.
The parts guys at Sea Ray dealers are great. I can definitely recommend my local guy at Russo Marine. Send him a parts inquiry on the website. He always got back to me same day.

Good point. I agree a good design should be able to accomadate the full range of possible motor mount adjstment.

I will check on the part as well. My table mounting bracket will need some work anyway though since it has warped it almost traps the table (although I rarely i.e. never get the table out).

John,

I measured from the bottom of the motor mount (where the two bolts attach to the flat pad of the stringer) to the bottom of the bracket that bolts to the motor.

port = 3 in
strbd = 2 7/8in.

Thanks for the measurements. I measured mine and using your same reference points mine are 3 1/8 inch on both sides. So mine is not raised much higher than yours.

Oh well I cannot make any sense out of why my bracket is not only touching the exhaust elbow but also melted. I took the bracket off today and have brought it home to remove the melted section.

I took temperatures as well. The dash gauge had the engine temp just under 170, the front of the engine measured 152, the starboard manifold 120, the starboard exhaust elbow 110, the port manifold 110 and the port exhaust elbow 100. There is about a 10 degree difference from port to starboard. Anyone know if this is an acceptable degree of difference? I guess I will so some searching and reading.

So now the table will be exposed to the heat :huh: Boatrboy has 2'' of clearance but he has a '99'. On mine there's a depression where the elbow pushes against the foam. There are no burn marks so I don't think the insulator was added by the previous owner.

I will see about taking a picture of the bracket. The bracket has melted to the point that if that section is not removed the table is almost impossible to slide in and out of the bracket.

My other thought was to fabricate another bracket out of sheet metal that would be thinner and thus give some airspace between the elbow and the bracket.
