Everyone out of the water?

Yes, it is... some days you can actually watch it come up!

The Gauley river (which is the primary feed for the lake) can reach 15,000 cubic feet per second...

It is always interesting to learn how different things are and other places where boaters boat.

I am always out, but I do winterize. Probably not necessary, but my marina closes weekends Dec 1 - Mar 1, so I just winterize it and put it up for those 3 months. They have some Bennington pontoons and Cobalt rental boats that I can use if I need a boat fix during the winter. I have a winter cover also.

I work for MSC Industrial Supply and our Corp. HQ is in Davidson, NC. I love going down there for meetings. The hotel we stay in is right on the lake and I love looking at boats out on the lake in the evening.

OK I'm back in after a polish, antifoul and prop speed - t'was 21 months since the last haul out and happy with the way she turned out. Ready for our aussie summer and Christmas holidays.

Props were tweaked for another inch of pitch and balanced.

Boat just went by the house so not everyone is done boating in West Michigan. Mostly the geese, seagulls, eagles and song birds are enjoying a mild, early winter day.

You should let me know the next time you are here - several members on LKN. I live in Charlotte, but have had a boat on LKN for about 20yrs. Davidson is also a nice place - my father went to Davidson College in the 50's before LKN was even built. If I didn't work in Charlotte/Southpark I would live either on or closer to the lake.

I’m headed down to the slip to winterize today. Boat stays in the water till spring haul out, but we’re leaving town for the holidays. While I do run a bilge and cabin heater just warm enough to avoid freezing, and it seldom gets below freezing for any lengthy periods, it’s peace of mind while we’re in Texas for the holidays. Just in case we get a bitter cold snap and in the off chance the marina loses power, I know the boat will be safe from damage. :)

Out of curiosity, how do you keep the bilge warm during a cold snap when the marina loses power?

You still have a lot of leaves down, are there leaves on the trees still? We still do. MM
Yes. Still lots on the ground which is unusual for this time of year. They should have been picked up last week but 4" of snow kicked that project in the head. Just emailed my yard guy that Monday and Tuesday will be the best time to finish up. The leaves are down; fair weather tomorrow and Tuesday; snow forecasted to begin again later this week. Fingers crossed.

Sailboats look cool. Your boat too.

Very unusual for us as well. I am sick of leaves...

We don't get all the leaves down and cleaned up until Christmas - the willow oaks in my yard are still full of leaves.

That's why I'm winterizing for while I'm out of town. While I'm away and in the off chance the marina does lose power, I won't be able to do anything about it from Texas. The marina is 5 minutes down the street, so while I'm here, I don't worry about it. If it gets below freezing, I check on the boat daily. I check on it 2-3 times a week regardless. Again it rarely gets below freezing for any extended amounts of time. My dock mate has been there for 10 years, and can't remember the marina ever losing power ...not to say it can't happen.
