EVA foam decking

I saw a question asking where I got the clear plastic. I bought it from Home Depot online and shipped to store for free. It is a 5' roll of about 50'+ and was about ten bucks. Much more than you need for several attempts or practice runs as I refer to them.

That was me...thanks!

Hey y'all, I am the one early in this thread that does Corinthian carpet...not that it matters, but I think I can help with your templates. Cocktail Time nailed it. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get 6mm clear plastic. When you cut it out, watch out that you are not stretching the plastic so that when you apply to the EVA you are getting a tight fit the first time. Also, I would use strapping tape and then apply basting tape (two sided) to hold down the plastic when templating. Hope this helps.

ive been looking into aqua marine deck. and experience / comments?

Here's how mine turned out earlier this year. I think I stated previously that I'd do SeaDek if I had to do it all over again. My feelings haven't changed :)

I had a local Sea Dek installer do mine in August , It turned out awesome, but it wasn’t cheap ... 5K Canadian

I've wanted to do a deck material on my past few boats, really not a fan of carpet on a boat. Wife was tired of carpet and got onboard with the SeaDek - so finally did it. SeaDek in Terra color, matches everything great, feels good and looks good.

So these foam products look great. But no one is talking long term durability. Who has used this for a few years? How is it holding up? How goes it handle winters? Who has dogs on board as how does it stand up to our four legged friends? Can it withstand dogs climbing stairs with it?

Thanks.

I have seen some posts on Facebook about the chinese EVA foam not holding up.

We’ve got a full year and a winter on it so far (covered on the hard)

That being said, I’ve power washed it with a fan nozzle and not a hint of peeling or coming apart. I think it’s fine for northern or moderate climates, the south is a different story. I’ve heard seadek failing in Florida after less than 3 years, you southern guys live in a different world of maintenance.

I have three seasons on the sea dek. Looks almost as good as it did the day I installed it. No dogs. I will say there is a line under the transom door where the sun reflecting off the gelcote shrunk the product. Also minor even fading.

We had it installed a couple of months ago....love it so far.

Does the power washing do a good job? I recently cleaned our swim platform with a brush, soap and water and then hosed off. Time for our cockpit, and I'd really like to not have to clean it as I did the platform - would like to just power wash.

Never tried power washing. Please update us on how that works for you.

I’ve used the electric pressure washer and my 3200psi gas but with the pressure turned down and the wide fan bit in. Dawn soap, and it comes perfectly clean. It has some texture so the pressure washer helps clean the dirt out of it nicely.

Used it today.....we'll see how it looks when dry, but it looks like it did a great job. A couple of small spots (spider crap) left a bit of a stain which I'll have to use a brush and soap on - but it freshened everything up quite nicely. We're just getting to where we can go barefoot onboard, so it was a couple of months of everyone onboard wearing shoes as the main contributor to the dirty aspect.

I read somewhere online to use a lower PSI and keep 8+ inches or more away, and don't spray directly on the edges. I turned mine down to is lower setting of 1300 psi, and followed the above with very good results using a 15 degree width spray pattern. I'll see the final results tomorrow when everything is completely dry.
